Hi Mark,
When importing the competitors you should be able to ignore the ratings.
i.e. when you score the appropriate rating will be pulled in from the rating
files. I can't make this fail - I cleared the class, rating and winrat
fields in a series, then set the class to "Dart 18 Sloop" for all
competitors and then scored and the default rating and wind rats for each
competitor was then set.
I know it's a bit ugly at the present but I can't make what is there fail.
I'll add the manual rating update tool ASAP. But a single rating value in a
competitor is too limited now that you can score by different rating
systems; I need a different model.
I was thinking of moving the rating values from the competitor (and race) to
a single ratings window for each series. In this window you can define
class specific, competitor specific and race-competitor specific ratings and
Sailwave will use the most specific one it has. The whole thing would be
paddde from the rating files, so for many series setting up ratings would
not be an issue. Think of it as a series of 'rules' that fire to get a
rating and a competitor, the most specific rule wins.
I think this is now more meaningful than the 'distributed' user interface
we have now with rating values shown in each competitor and then each race.
Sailwave could feedback in those places but the user interface itself would
be in one place.
Does that that sound better to you....?
Colin

Subject: ratings ulpload and csv import of competitorsHi Colin
The problem only occurs when you import a competitor using a csv file.
You can properly map the competitor entry screen with all the
info that you
have in the csv file . All of the files will be populated except the
ratings fields. The problem is that if you map the boat class field with a name
that matches
to a boat class in your sailwave database you won't be able to
pull in the
rating. If you set up a scoring system and use it to score the race... It
does not
switch to the rating system .. load the rating data and then score the
race... the rating screen for that race is still empty. In fact, to update the rating, you must switch the boat class to a random
boat and then select the proper boat and it will import the
rating. So you
have to do this one by one.
(PIA)I don't know that if you have a proper competitor with a proper rating if
the program will switch to another rating system when you apply it and
rescore.Now... I could map the sailors self reported rating to the rating
field with
import csv feature. This will enter the single self reported DPN number
into the rating field and I can score the race using this rating number. With PHRF and IRC ratings this system might not be a problem
because the
competitor is likely to know his proper rating and not make an error in
registration So you can import their rating into sailwave and
assume that
everything will be OK._________________________________________________________________
