RC duty points

Our club currently has a rotation of all the competitors to do race
committee duty. For RC duty they get average points (RDGa). However
this is not always fair, because the number of competitors vary from
night to night, so sometimes the boat performing RC duty can be
scored their average points which can be greater than DNC.

To be fair, a racer at our club has proposed the following formula:

RC duty = (RDGa) / (Average boats competing in the races sailed by
the boat performing RC Duty) - (number of boats in the race RC Duty
was performed)

Does anyone run into the same problem? And does anyone use a similar
formula to the one above?

Colin, how hard would this be to implement into sailwave? Could you
create a utlity for RC duty so that different clubs could enter their
own formulas, and therefore make sailwave more flexible?

Thanks,

Hi Matt, Opua Cruising Club NZ We had the same problem but started
using the OOD result which is in setup and we now have no complaints.
This gives an average points for the series Regards Norm

What is the difference between RDGa, and OOD?

I'm sure there are many ways the issue can be solved. At our club the OOD
gets points for first place for the first race of the day and average points
for any successive races. It incentivizes doing starter duty, and over the
season should average out if all fleet members serve once. For what it's
worth. Dan

It appears that every club does this differently and trying to code
something into Sailwave would probably only satisfy the needs of one or two
clubs. I think there are other things that would benefit the majority of
Sailwave users more.

Also it sounds like you need to use the Long Series scoring system which has
DNC equal to the number of boats entered in the series, not the number
showing up that night.
