RDGa changing position results in Series.

Hi.. we run numerous series of races and tend to use racers from the fleet to act as OOD (which we score as an RDGa). We have also recently gone to the CHIPS scoring system. What we are finding is: that since we use an RDGa score for the OOD, if they race and improve their average... they score in previous races.

The problem is that this downward displaces boats that have actually raced and given a position. So if a race officer later gets an average of 3rd place, then all racers in that race that finished 3rd or worse move down in their positioning on that race day. Currently, I have to score the series... go back, enter the manually assign the average score for the assign races, then rescore the series. This does create some confusion during the race series though.

Is there a way to make a scoring code that assigns an average score but will not affect positions of racers that actually raced.

Generally when using redress you do NOT change the scores of the other boats. See rule A6.2.

A6.2 If the protest committee decides to give redress by adjusting a boat’s score, the scores of other boats shall not be changed unless the protest committee decides otherwise.

Make sure you have set the option in the RDGa scoring code to not adjust other boats scores.
