re - Sailwave and Ubuntu

Anders,

As per an email from Simon Smith - do you have font files
under /usr/share/wine/fonts ?

Though, if I open my Sailwave (under wine), in its fonts options, I see
ubuntu fonts (e.g. alArabiya) , not the fonts listed in the above
directory.

What do you have listed in your fonts?

Hi Malcome,

still haven't figured it out...
Using Wine 1.1.31

//Anders

Malcom,

There are no fonts under /usr/share/wine/fonts

Tryed copying from /home/anders/.wine/dosdevices/c:/windows/Fonts with
no success in Sailwave.

I have also installed msttcorefonts...

In Sailwave I see "Ubuntu-fonts".

You'd expect something like this:

cpolwart@Linux-PC:~$ ls /usr/share/wine/fonts
coue1255.fon coure.fon cvgasys.fon marlett.ttf smallee.fon
smallet.fon ssee874.fon sserifer.fon tahoma.ttf vgas874.fon
vgasysr.fon
coue1256.fon coureg.fon hvgasys.fon smae1255.fon smalle.fon
ssee1255.fon sserifee.fon sserifet.fon vgas1255.fon vgasyse.fon

coue1257.fon courer.fon jsmalle.fon smae1256.fon smalleg.fon

couree.fon couret.fon jvgasys.fon smae1257.fon smaller.fon
ssee1257.fon sserifeg.fon tahomabd.ttf vgas1257.fon vgasysg.fon

Its probably to *.fon ones that matter... rather than the ttf ones
which is probably what you are copying.

Not sure what installs them there?

Calum

Calum,

If I run SW, under its View / Font selection, no fonts as installed in /usr/share/wine/fonts are listed.

Only ubuntu-type fonts are listed (and can be selected). This seems to imply that the fonts as installed in the above directory are not being used (in my setup, anyway)

Do you see the `ubuntu’ fonts or the MS fonts in your SW app?

Hi guys,

I just upgraded from Ubuntu to Mint and hit this problem that various people were having where certain text entry fields in sailwave were appearing with solid vertical lines in them instead of text.

Some serious befriending of google later implied it was an issue to do with how wine allocated a sort of fall back default font. No doubt its set in a registry file entry some palce but god knows where. Basically they call said that if C:\windows\fonts was empty then it would all go away. I tried that and it didn't! So I tried making both C:\windows\fonts and /usr/share/wine/fonts empty (simply renamed them like this:

sudo mv /usr/share/wine/fonts /usr/share/wine/fonts-old
sudo mv ~/.wine/windows/fonts mv ~/.wine/windows/fonts-old
)

Wine now appears to play nicely.

(Solution based on this posting: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=1380407#post1380407 )

I have no other wine apps running so can't be sure what impact this may have on them, but as only renam, ing the folders can be easily undone.

Hope this helps  (There was also a suggestion its to do with the saem font being listed twice which may again be related to this.) Certainly looking in user.reg the last entries are now to my main font folder - although they may always have been!

Calum

I have two issues:

FIRST ISSUE:

···

-----------------------
I have 7 starts set up by default ion each race, defined by fleet. But of course sometimes no-one from a fleet turns up. If I publish all results with race tables for all sailed races I get a "data-less" table for the ones where no-one raced. Is there any way to stop that showing? Afterall the summary table only shows races with data.

Here's an example: http://wetteds.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/sundayspringseries20101.html

Take a look at the FF15 fleet - they have turned up for 4 races (there have been 9 possible races) scroll down the page to http://wetteds.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/sundayspringseries20101.html#r1flying_fifteen and you'll see that R1 on the 14th March had no FF15 entrants... ...but did take place for other fleets. So can I stop a table like this being produced?

SECOND ISSUE:
---------------------------
This one is more complex. The Topaz fleet starts on the same start time as the Handicap fleet. So acording to this years SIs the topazes are actually part of the handicap fleet! To achieve that we ailias the topazes with a different fleet name (handicap). But if only 1 topaz races (see: http://wetteds.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/sundayspringseries20101.html#topaz - Race 2 on 14 March) but more than 1 handicap races (http://wetteds.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/sundayspringseries20101.html#handicap) then the topaz alias needs to not appear in the topaz table? Is there a way to achieve this? I've tried deleting the topaz start but that didn't seem to work! This isn't just a presentation thing it will affect discards etc.

Thoughts / suggestions welcome!

Many thanks Calum!!!!

This is a fairly old thread, but I thought I would provide an update based on investigations I did today. It seems that the fonts in the /usr/share/wine/fonts directory that are causing the problem are all the fonts beginning with "ss" (san-serif, I assume). In my Ubuntu installation of wine 1.2, that is:

ssee1255.fon ssee1257.fon sserifee.fon sserifeg.fon sserifet.fon
ssee1256.fon ssee874.fon sserife.fon sserifer.fon

I didn't go any deeper to determine which of these is the culprit, but just issuing the command "sudo rm /usr/share/wine/fonts/ss*" will allow Sailwave to work fine in Wine without completely eliminating your /usr/share/wine/fonts directory.

Having this fonts problem is still a pain, as every time Wine automatically updates, you have to go back to that directory and play with the fonts to get Sailwave to work properly.

Not complaining - it's still very, very nice that Sailwave works so well under Wine. Thanks Colin!

I think I did do the move (rename) of the fonts directory to a fonts-old' directory to get SW to work under Ubuntu, but looking now at /usr/share/wine, I see a fonts’ directory as well as a `fonts-old’ directory. Both seem to contain the same content, incl. the ss* files you mention. Puzzle?

(using Wine v 1.2.2)

Malcolm,
The reason you are seeing both a /usr/share/wine/fonts directory and a /usr/share/wine/fonts-old directory is because you had a software update to Wine after you did the fix to get Sailwave to work. Whenever there is an update, the /usr/share/wine/fonts directory gets re-created.

After every update of Wine, run:

sudo rm -Rf /usr/share/wine/fonts-old
sudo cp -R /usr/share/wine/fonts /usr/share/wine/fonts-old
sudo rm /usr/share/wine/fonts/ss*

Hope this helps.
