We had a race yesterday with a large first lap followed by a number of smaller laps.
Some people did 2 small laps and the others did 1 small lap.
Does anyone have any recomendations as to whether we should score this as if everyone
did 2 small laps or 1 small lap and are there any guidelines anywhere as to how this should be done?.
In detail if the lap times were
Large lap A
1st small lap B
2nd small lap c
then we could either take the elapsed time as
A+B+C for those that did 2 small laps
and
A+(2xB) for those that did 1 small lap
or alternatively
A + ((B+C)/2)
and
A+B
These changes do affect the finishing order due to changing the importance of the small laps in the
overall calculation.
Thanks for any advice on this.

What did the Sailing Instructions say? If the SIs said to do one big
lap and two small ones, your only choice is to score those who only
did the one small lap as DNF.
If the SIs said to do one small lap, and you have times for the
completion of the first small lap for those who did two, just use the
"one lap" times as the finish times.
