Result formatting?

I think I have done a reasonable job searching for an answer, but I apologize if I missed something in the archives that I should have found.

We are switching to high-point scoring in our frostbite fleet this year. Since this is new to us, the results are a little confusing to read as we are used to seeing finishing positions in the table. I also like the ability to highlight each race winner using the HighlightWins effect.

I was hoping I might be able to modify the published results to be

         "[position] [score]"

rather than just

         "[score]"

but looking in the template, it appears that this output is generated in html.resultswiz and I cannot locate that anywhere. Is that something I can modify or is in the executable?

Thanks!

This I think will do what you want, as this supports highlighting of Highpoint scored results

Tim,

I think Jon may have misread your message and answered a question it
doesn't appear you asked (about highlighting, not what gets displayed in
the series table).

As I understand it, your research was accurate. I believe the series
results table is generated inside the Sailwave executable and in not
modifiable. In the series results table, you can display EITHER places
or points for each race but not both (you pick what is "published" to
the HTML file by what is displayed when you "publish"). With a high
point system the positions aren't always obvious from the points.

I can think of a possibility to kind of get what you want but it is a
bit convoluted. You'd have to publish the results to your PC twice, once
showing points and once showing places. Then, you could hand-edit one of
the two files to include the results table from the other so you'd wind
up with two tables - one showing points and the other showing places for
each race but points in the summary column.

It might be better to simply accept that someone who wants to see the
places for a race will simply have to look in the individual race
tables, where places for the race are shown (1st column) in addition to
the points (last column).

Overall, I think that for a series of races longer than a regatta (in
other words, a series not held on essentially consecutive days) a high
point system has the potential to be MUCH fairer (depending on which of
the many high point systems you choose) and I think fairness should
overrule inconvenience of reading the results. So, I'd accept the
limitations of not being able to show both points AND places and go with
one of the high point systems.

Perhaps I did misread the question but he did ask about highlighting and I thought that is why he wanted the position because with the earlier method highlighting wouldn’t work with high point scoring. Tim I think you have been probably been publishing points rather than position in the past but they are often the same but not always with low point scoring. If you do want to publish position then select it from the drop down or press F6 x before you publish. You can’t display both points and position at the same time although with the highlighting if you publish points the highlighting will show places 1 - 3.

Thank you Jon for the pointers to the new HighlightWins scripts, that is exactly what I was hoping for (and more!).

Yes, I was also hoping to get the position information as well (and yes, it technically is points that we are used to, not actually position- it is just rare to see any difference between the two in our fleets (not enough protests going on!!!)). I understand now that I cannot get both at the same time.
