results for a heat race series, ie. gold silver and bronze fleet type system

hi,
im from the student windsurfing association committee, and we are
looking to use your program for results for our racing events.
the problem i am having is that we run a heat system. because we have
more competitors than equipment, we divide the competitors, usually
40+, into heats by their seeding, commonly 8 per heat, and then run a
round of heats. at the end of this round of heats the highest two
competitors from each heat, wih the exception of the first heat, go
up a heat, and the lowest two, with exception of the last heat, go
down a heat. the heats are then run again, and the same swapping of
places happens again. after a number of rounds, usually 3 or 4, the
racing ends and the results need to be calculated.
at the moment we have been testing different scoring methods, but
ther has not yet been a corum within the committee on the scoring
process.
is there an isaf/rya scoring system we could use, and if so can it be
done with sailwave?? if not are there any suggestions as to a scoring
method, and how we could implement it into sailwave??

thanks loads,

Hi James,

I believe the standard method is Appendix KE as specified by ISAF whicu is
available on-line at www.sailing.org. It's clever in that in essence the
only tweak needed to scoring software is the ability to handle multiple
1sts, 2nds etc per race, which Sailwave does by Specifying Appendix KE as
the race tir resolution method. Extensions can then be added to do the
fleet rotations, which Sailwave does not do yet.

The UKWA use Sailwave; you could contact them also.

Regards,
Colin
