results upload.

I’m a Virgin Media customer and can ftp from Chrome ok.

nslookup gives the results in the screen capture attached.

Hope this helps,

Hi Ian,

Thanks for the update. So it would be interesting to know if you and anyone else change the DNS server if it fixes it. If you have the login to the Virgin Media router you should be able to change the DNS server that it issues to all DHCP users. Two good ones to use are Google 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4

or openDNS which are 208.67.222.222 & 208.67.220.220

If you don’t have access to the router you can configure the Laptop to use a manual IP address and when you do this you get to be able to specify the DNS servers manually as well.

Note that I seemed to have to run at a command prompt >ipconfig /flushdns before the changes worked

Theoretically, you should be able to add an entry in the Hosts file to override the DNS will have a play with that again when I have more time.

Is it only a Virgin Media issue? what are they attempting to do by directing it elsewhere?

For all users, if the command >nslookup sailwave.com does not give 46.32.245.125 then there is something wrong with your system.

We have had this same problem since August last year.

I was able to upload to the Sailwave results folder option up to August 2017 both from my office PC (within a University network) and from my home PC (Virgin media) From August 2017 I was only able to upload results from my University PC, a fellow club member also stopped being able to upload from his home PC at the same time.

I hope this may add to the knowledgebase for this current issue.

nslookup sailwave…com also reports 62.252.172.241 for me, so it would be interesting to see if other Virgin Media customers have the same issues

Sadly our club uses Sailing Club Manager for its website so FTP of results is not an option, the Sailwave folder became our only option if we want to display well formatted results.

Hi All - Just an update on the resolution for this. I’ve been Teamviewer’d into Terry’s PC for a couple of hours.

It is a brand new Windows 10 PC with nothing on it originally except Sailwave. It came with a 30 day trial of McAffee Antivirus and Firewall Preinstalled. This was taking over the standard firewall. So we un-installed the Mcaffee but this did not fix it.

You could go to the website of Sailwave by entering in sailwave.com so the DNS was resolving the sailwave.com fine

What I did then was install chrome and tried ftp://sailwave.com in the address bar and this didn’t work (No prompt for username and password) but trying ftp://windsurfingresults.co.uk did so it wasn’t the ftp being blocked

We set up some rules to the firewall to make sure Sailwave ftp was not blocked but this had no effect

At a command prompt I then did >nslookup sailwave.com

It said if found sailwave.com as address 62.252.172.241 which I eventually realized as not the correct one

I tried to put an entry in the hosts file as I needed to solve the issue without rebooting as Terry was no longer present to log me back in remotely. This didn’t seem to work. Don’t know why. Maybe it needed ipconfig /flushdns

The DNS server was defined as the router 192.168.0.1 A Virgin Media router which I had no access to, so I changed the IP address from DHCP to manual and set the DNS to 8.8.8.8 (Google)

nslookup sailwave.com then reported an ip address of 46.32.245.125 but Sailwave would still not upload even after restarting Sailwave.

I then did >ipconfig /flushdns and restarted Sailwave and it is working !!

So the problem was a DNS issue but why - why would the browser work for the website http and https but not the ftp

Where did the address 62.252.172.241 come from, its a Virgin media owned address - is it a proxy server?

Hope that helps anyone with a similar issue

Thanks - Terry
Just a small further update for those interested. I did get the Hosts file modification working (A typo I made) which we eventually opted for, rather than changing the DNS server. Changing the DNS server is certainly a solution and if its a Desktop then I would recommend this as probably the best solution but if its a laptop and you are logging on in various places in which case you will be using DHCP allocation of the IP address which normally means the DNS servers are automatically assigned. By changing the Hosts file this will work automatically with DHCP enabled at any location.

The hosts file can be found at C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc

I added the following two lines

46.32.254.125 sailwave.com

46.32.254.125 www.sailwave.com

The only downside of this solution is, should the IP address of Sailwave server change you would need to modify this. But this would only change if the Sailwave server hosting was moved and there are currently no plans to do that. The best solution would of course get Virgin Media to fix their issue but that is not always easy.

I hope this may add to the knowledgebase for this current issue.

nslookup sailwave…com also reports 62…252.172.241 for me, so it would be interesting to see if other Virgin Media customers have the same issues

So we un-installed the Mcaffee but this did not fix it…

Hope that helps anyone with a similar issue

then to see if you have at least some ftp access type:

ftp 46.32…254.125

and see if you get a log in prompt (good) or not (bad). ctrl+c to exit.

If you do get a log in prompt, exit, then try:-

ftp ftp.sailwave.com

if you don’t get a login prompt it’s a dns problem, if you do, i have no idea

Good morning Terry,

Just catching up on this thread.

The first thing that concerns me is that you mention not getting an email from Sailwave. I have never when doing an upload to Sailwave. So I do not understand that.

To test if you have network access problems to Sailwave server, please can you test it by opening a command window and then typing at the prompt

ping www.sailwave.com

Then let me know the results, please. If you do not get something similar to the above output then you have a network connection problem to the Sailwave server that needs resolving.

Kind regards,
Huw
