Rule A8 (again)

If 2 boats are racing in a series and there finishing places are:

Boat A 2 2 4 2
Boat B 3 3 1 3

Rule A8 says:

A8 SERIES TIES
A8.1 If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat's race scores
shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a
difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s).
No excluded scores shall be used.

A8.2 If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of
their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied
boats' scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These
scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

Does that mean that Boat loses even though they won most of the races according to A8.1? Would that
mean Boat A would be 2 2 2 4 and Boat B would be 1 3 3 3 (Listing the scores from best to worst)
thus Boat B would get the win? I know this has been gone over before, but what is the ruling?

Zeff,

Yes, boat B wins because of her first and A8.1.

I agree that who-beats-who-the-most would be better and was in fact the
basis of the 2001-2004 a8.2 that was dumped because it was flawed (shame -
it was easy to fix). It can also be used to score a series in it's own
right...

Colin

Boat B gains from the tiebreak of A8.1 as her 1st place breaks the tie.

Although Boat A beat Boat B more often the tie breaks system contained
in Appendix A places more value on the higher race scores than who beat
who in particular races.
