Running Sailwave on an Apple Silicon Mac with UTM and a Windows 11 Virtual Machine

UTM is a full featured system emulator and virtual machine host for macOS. It allows you to run Windows on your Apple Silicon Mac. (https://mac.getutm.app/)

To run Sailwave on a Silicon Mac use UTM to create a Windows 11 Virtual Machine. The setup is not complicated. Rather than duplicate what is already available on the web. I recommend following a YouTube instructional video, for example How to Install Windows 11 On UTM (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ewch4xFXz6o)

The UTM solution is free, it gets around the WINE problem for scoring races with ratings, and it lets me manipulate files in the host OS without the internet through a shared folder. I have used it to score races using PHRF ratings.

You do not need to activate the Windows machine to use it for Sailwave. Once the machine is up and running, from within the virtual machine download Sailwave and install it.

I prefer using a shared folder for Sailwave data to exchange data between the VM and your Mac. I find it easier to work in the host system once the results are published to the shared folder.

UTM is a good solution. VMWare Fusion is also free.
