Running Sailwave on Lenix

Yes, Sailwave runs perfectly on Linux. Here is the entry at WineHQ:

http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=27449

This shows the entry for Sailwave 8.5 on Linux Mint 12, but version 2.9.7 works perfectly on Linux Mint 15. If it works on the latest version of Linux Mint, it will work on the latest version of Ubuntu or Debian, with a minimum of WINE version 1.4.

By the way, Huw or Malcomb. Have you figured out a way to get Sailwave under WINE to find a Linux spreadsheet program such as Libreoffice? I was thinking about trying to put in a symbolic link called “excel.exe” or something like that, but I’m not sure where I would put it. I’m not even sure that’s what Sailwave looks for when a spreadsheet program is called.

That might be a nice upgrade for a future release, Jon, making the path to the spreadsheet program configurable.

Andy,

I have found using a virtual machine that Excel is found if

installed in Windows, but so far haven’t how to link to LibreOffice.
However will see what can do.

Kind regards,

Andy,

Possible work round for now would be to install LibreOffice under

WINE. I appreciate that LibreOffice then installed twice, once true
Linux and once WINE Windows.

Andy,

This page might help for getting Sailwave under WINE to 'output'

LibreOffice Calc,

To get results into a spreadsheet (with Ubuntu, it would be Libreoffice Calc), one would have to select `Publish to an installed application', then specify a command to call up this app.

However, I've not been able to get this right. From a shell, one can start Calc with the command libreoffice --calc, but Sailwave doesn't react to this

Does the Export to Clipboard (where you can select what is exported) and then paste into your spreadsheet work with linux?. This is an extremely flexible and useful feature. Publishing to a Spreadsheet is interesting but I don’t personally see where it is particularly useful.

The interface with Excel for use with the NHC and personal handicaps uses COM so I can’t see this working with any spreadsheet other than Excel without a rewrite.
