We run two fleets which are both scored together and separately. We have been using manually calculated progressive handicaps but I have been testing using RYA NHC in Sailwave instead. I am using the actual results from our second series which experienced several light wind races. However, I am getting anomolous results:
- The handicaps for the Multihull don’t change from the initial setting, while the Monohull does.
- One of the monohulls develops a negative handicap. The only issue I can find with this boat is he showed everyone the way round the course by a long way in Race one.
Does anybody have any suggestions?

Hi Graham
The only thing I noticed was that you had the score series set to one group rather than score by fleet.
I corrected this and have tried it with NHC internal and NHC external and it appears fine
Please have a look at the attached one and let me know if you have a problem

Thanks, Jon. The scoring of both fleets together was intentional as we run both fleet and overall scoring.
I re-ran using your editted file and got the same screwy results so I decided something must have got corrupted in my installation. I reinstalled the latest Sailwave (which I already had) and then re-ran the scoring.
Low and behold, the results now look fine, so it looks as though corruption somewhere was the issue.
Many thanks for your help, and for all the hardwork you do for the Forum.

Graham
Hi,
I thought this issue had gone away but apparently not. If I score using RYA NHC and Internal, I get the following.
It doesn’t make much sense to me that the leading boat now has a more lenient handicap.
If I switch to external/debug I get:
Which seems much more reasonable. I have reinstalled from scratch and get the same results.
What am I doing wrong?

Hi Graham,
The results you have shown in your email obviously don’t come from the same file as the file you attached. The file you attached has a DNF of 23.
The results you are showing in your email also don’t show that you have them allocated to different fleets, but you are scoring as one fleet
If you are using NHC, you need to have all the competitors that you wish to be scored together in the same fleet
So I would suggest you have a fleet named “personal” and move what you have in the fleet to a division column
Looking at your file, there are a few problems. The biggest one is that you seem to be using average lap racing, and average laps are not supported for personal handicaps, as the lap is not transferred from the Sailwave into the spreadsheet
The other issue is that you have recorded elapsed times not in the standard format of minutes and seconds. You’ve just put in one case 7, so it’s taken it as 7 seconds instead of 7:00, which would be seven minutes.
Hope that helps
We could look at possibly supporting average lap racing. I don’t know how much demand there is for that with personal handicaps

Jon
