RYA NHC in a Multi Series environment

Hello,

Apologies if this is a basic question , but

We will be using RYA NHC double scoring using Aliases for our one Designs this year. But we will be running multiple series for the One Designs throughout the year.

Ok, So we have midweek racing that belongs to a specific Series and we have weekend racing which will belong to another separate series.

For example does Sailwave take a Handicap ratings change that occurred during the mid-week race and “feed it” into the the current handicap for the next weekend race for the same boat? or are they treated totally independently?

Thanks

John W

Hi John,

The two series are treated as completely separate. Which in my

view is correct as there is likely, generally, to a different mix
of boats taking part in the two series; although more or less will
be in both.

Kind regards,

Huw

Huw,

Thank You, yes i can see the logic behind that.

Just to add to Huw’s post. This was discussed in the past.

The RYA did recommend then that they are separate as

  • The Crew for a Wednesday evening series and a Weekend Series is very often different
  • The Wind conditions are often very different with evening often being lighter and dropping off as the race progresses
  • The Race lengths are often different.
  • The Course is often different
With these conditions changing it works better to keep them separate and the ratings will be adjusted for the two separately.

When the next evening series starts use the ratings from the previous evening series and the weekend series use from the previous weekend series
