Does anyone know what the correct PY numbers are for the FEVA S and FEVA XL?
The RYA PY number in 2008 was:
FEVA 1189 (Recorded)
FEVA XL 1200 (Trial) (this entry has been dropped from the 2009 list)
RS Have :
FEVA XL 1189
FEVA S 1240 (I have seen 1260 for this boat)
What numbers should I use?
and if anyone does know of a quick way to extract an average BCR for each competitor from a whole series then I would still like to know.

Presumably there isn't a 'correct' one as it's not in the 2009 list - so make one up

Open series, 'F6' and select BCR, then 'File, 'Export series summary to windows clipboard', making sure that the race columns + some form of ID are exported, then paste into Excel (or OpenOffice) - sorted

The reason that a class is removed from the list will be because there were insufficient clubs sending in a return for that class
If you need to find a number for an old class, try contacting Bas Edmonds at the RYA
He has the database of all annual returns & quite often can give advice on what other clubs have used

Does anyone have a PY number for the Laser Vago? I am curently using 1000 in the RPCYC Gul Winter Series in Plymouth and the 2 youngsters sailing it are holding their own against 2 RS400s, a Tasar, 2 Laser 5000s, International Canoe, a Phantom and a B14 and are 4th in the series. Other websites seem to indicate a variety of PY numbers from 1000 to 1060.
Have a look at the attached PY list which I have just updated for 2009
PYs are arrived at from various sources as shown in the status column
RYA numbers are marked P, S, R & T
Other numbers are from various sources & need to be used with caution
I have got 4 PYs for various configurations of the Vago, recommended by the class, ranging from 1000 to 1100
Guess the Plymouth youngsters are a bit hot
Happy for others to use the attached, perhaps you could let me know if you have more up to date info

Mike,
Thanks or the answers.
I must admit that I had hoped there would be a way to extract the average BCR for a series for each competitor.
Currently I use the full 'Publish' selecting publish all races and then cut/paste from the html. This puts the BCR in a single column when pasted into excel so that when sorted By Helm and Boat they are reasonably easy to handle to get the average.
Your method puts all the BCRs in a single row for each competitor. I will have a play and see which is easier.
With regard to the FEVA PY, of course we do have our club numbers, but it does get difficult when the RYA and RS seem to have the PYs the opposite way round and I am asked to justify my selection (currently the RYA 2008 numbers)
Thanks again, Mark.

Normally if Handicap is not in RYA published numbers, I will
tend to use the most recent RYA published number.
In this case there is no recent published number that you are
aware of, so Google becomes quite handy “Feva S” in Searchbox
I found this
http://www.abclubhk.com/download/172.pdf
Which suggest 1260 for the Feva S.
You may use that as a Trial number or decide to lower it
slightly to ensure the non proven handicap does not walk away with all your
cups in his first season (As you might be accused of favouring him with a
handicap)

Based on the shiney RS leaflet that I acquired at the Dinghy Show (also info at http://www.rssailing.com/fleetsnew.asp?fleet=RS%20Feva&selection=Details%20and%20Spec - although they say 'Feva' which = 'Feva S' according to leaflet):
Feva S has a smaller mainsail than an XL, and an optional genniker. Hence XL should be faster - unless it spends all its time inverted
Personally I would initially use 1189 for the 'bells and whistles' boat (XL), then make some educated guesses for the two 'S' configurations.

We use 1189 for XL and 1200 for S.
I think the RYA got them around the wrong way in last years PY book.
