RYA PY submissions

Hi,

I have had my first attempt at submitting a series of races to the PY Online system. It failed.

We are using Sailwave version 2.19.8 which was the most recent "official" version at the start of the season. We made sure that the races had a date against them, which seems to be important to RYA. We are registered with the RYA system, so the number they provide is used as the club identifier. I left the Sailwave "Event ID" as it was, and checked the Sailwave dinghy formats before submitting.

A snapshot of the error report is below.

Any ideas? I can send more data but it does not need to go to everyone in the world.

Regards, Andy Howard

Hi Andy,

Its most likely because you have some special characters in one of the fields at a guess there is an & symbol in a crew name or similar.

The solution is to either remove this symbol and replace it with “and” or update to the latest version which will support the & symbol 2.23.4

https://www.dropbox.com/s/oubxg7gh79dksa8/sailwave.exe?dl=1

Let me know how you get on and if you need any help. Used to windsurf regularly at LLandegfedd many years ago - brings back some good memories.

Hi Johnny,

Short answer is that Sailwave cannot 'sum up' separate boats

scores to produce a set of results for a skipper.

You will have to create a Sailwave 'record' for a skipper and

then log in another field which boats the skipper sailed in in
each race. Use for example the competitor Notes field/column. You
will also have to edit each race for a competitor to set the
handicap used in that race.

Hope that helps a little bit.

Hi,

I have been using Sailwave for a couple of years now

with no problems. However, I have just been asked to
score a handicap race series by skipper, and not by
boat. Meaning a skipper can sail different type of boats
during the series, and will be awarded points for each
race sailed. I know how to set up a skipper with
separate boats, and score the races. Problem is, I don’t
know if Sailwave has the ability to sum up the
skipper’s points from all the races to determine and
display their overall standing in the series.

Can anyone help me with this?

Hi Johnny,

It all depends upon if you are trying to score the series by skipper or by both the boat and the skipper.

If it is just by Skipper (or just by boat) then there is no problem Sailwave can handle that.

If you are scoring by Skipper you dont enter the boat details just the skipper details. Presumably the boats are of different classes and you are using a handicap system correct?

In which case you need to enter the handicap for each skipper for each race.

To do this press enter on the appropriate result cell and select the ratings tab

Inline images 1

then enter the rating for that race.

As a tip if you click F6 then R you see all the ratings for the series.

When you enter the results you can either change the sail numbers each race to match the competitors or you can enter the results by helm name.

A tip is you can use the Sailno Wizard and enter * and then you can enter part names.

Hi Johnny,

I have a similar situation where we are allowed to sail different boats in our series too.

I have created a separate sailwave file and enter the results again to score the series.

I choose the most used boat for that skipper and use that for all races the skipper sails. I enter the race result, not the times for that series.

It takes a little longer but I cannot see any other way around it.

I hope that helps,
