We adjust PY handicaps and therefore analyse performance of every boat
in every PY race using the RYA method. With this years YR2 disc the
RYA have issued an excel spreadsheet for analysing performance,
(ACHIEVED PERFORMANCE SPREADSHEET) but it requires keying in of data
already in Sailwave files. Have any of the more technical of you (or
Colin) looked at this. A simple way of tranferring the data from SW
would save a lot of time in re-keying data both for ongoing adjustment
and for doing the annual return.

Hi Mike (et al)
Could you export the data fram sailwave, then paste into into the
spreadsheet, Excel knows that comma separated data goers in separate cells.
Of load the exported data into excel and copy from spreadhset to
spreadsheet...?

Hi Mike and Colin,
I have been looking at exporting data from Sailwave to the RYA spreadsheet that comes on the 2006 RYA Portsmouth Yardstick Scheme CD. The only problem is that Sailwave does not store the RYA Handicap Status value (PY, SY, RN, TN & CN). Sailwave uses the character string PY to identify the rating system, The RYA Portsmouth Yardstick Scheme, like it uses SCR to identify the ISAF Small Catamaran Handicap Rating Scheme or other rating schemes; as noted in the following from the Sailwave help file
Rating system code. The code is not case-sensitive and must be one of:-
py - RYA Portsmouth yardstick rating system
texel - Texel catamaran rating system
scr - ISAF small catamaran handicap rating system
tcf - Generic time correction factor system
tcc - Time correction factor system
irm - IR 2000 IRM
irc - IR 2000 IRC
lys - Scandavian, time correction factor
chs - CHS (legacy)
echo - ECHO (Ireland)
vy - VYC rating system
uspn - USSA Portsmouth rating system
phrf - Standard TOD PHRF
phrftot - TOT PHRF (The A and B operators are defined within Sailwave)
custom - Custom rating system as defined within Sailwave
Now if it was possible for Colin to include a column within Sailwave to take account of the Handicap status then yes it would be possible to export from Sailwave to a spreadsheet and copy appropriate date into the RYA spreadsheet. I have done this for an example race but it is tedious because you cannot just copy a complete set of data at once you have to copy individual columns of data at a time. There is one little catch / gotcha. The RYA spreadsheet does not like the data pasted from the finish time column produced by Sailwave; the way I got round that was to copy the elapsed time into the finish time column and set the start time to zero!
I have a recollection that Colin was going to standardise the format of all time outputs from Sailwave and have : (colon) separators or a user defined separator as is or used to be the case for when inputting times.
I have attached a PDF version of my test race data copied from a Sailwave HTML file opened in Excel.
Look forward to your comments.
Kind regards,
Huw

Hi Huw
Thanks for your message. We don't use a standard PY data base. We
have adjusted PY numbers that are assigned to each competitors
entry. These are not personal handicaps as all boats of a class are
the same, but they are not the same as in YR2. Would this make it
easier as Sailwave is not looking at a seperate file for handicaps?
We monitor performance and review after every 4 races. We don't
change Primary numbers. We also don't need to know handicap status.
