Sail No Wizard

An improvement to the Sail No. Wizard would be for cursor to default to 'laps' window on pressing 'Enter' on keyboard after inputting 'Position or elapsed time or code'. At the moment you have to click into 'laps' window each time. Would be helpful in scoring handicap fleets where number of laps can vary between boat classes.

Is the Wizard linked to a common database yet? I'm still using version 1.47.

Keith

I disagree, I use sailwave to score one-design fleets and this would
complicate things from my point of view

I do agree with "the last Keith".

another point of view ist that one design fleets often are bigger (100-200 boats), and that speed in registering is "more important" on those regattaes.... (I do not want to make a discussion about wich is most important!!)

So, if it's not possible to hve both, I prefere it like it is.... !

When I read the original request I realised it would be a context thing;
I'll make sure both contexts are satisfied; even if that means telling the
SailNo wizard that you want to see the laps field or not. Each
keystroke/mouse-movement counts... One of the options is to take the given
SailNo as the last N digits; another which I put in and then took out again
for some reason is to allow the SailNo to be entered backwards. These help
in for e.g. Laser fleets.

Colin,
With the sail num wiz one problem I have is as follows
boat 1 sail # 12
boat 2 sail # 123
I cannot select boat 1 without using the mouse. If after entering 12 I could
use the up / down arrow keys to select from the list I would be very happy.
I find the mouse is MUCH slower than if it can all be done from the

I have basically the same problem, except that we don't use literal sail numbers but instead put the sailor's name and boat type in that field. My problem comes when "Harrell, Jimmy SJ23" and "Harrell, Jay B210" are both sailing on the same day - then I have to tab over or use the mouse (or keep typing until it's unique)

BTW, I spent some time experimenting with ways of dealing with my club where no one knows their sail numbers, some boats don't even have them, and our paper score sheets just use names. (Yes, the fleets are really small enough that the RC usually knows everyone crossing the line by name). I came up with the "Name&boat" approach and it's worked well for me. Thanks very much for not making the Sail Number field require a numeric value.
