The only way I can get it to work with the correct DNC score, using

I tested Huw's method and it worked perfectly...

Just find the right field <excluded> and set as 0 (excluded=1 means

the

competitor is excluded)

I was wrestling with this last week (see my post and Phil’s reply).
I can’t get Huw’s method to work, but what I did discover is that if
you enter results by double clicking on the BOAT/RACE cell instead of

I agree with Chris that this will be a real pain because we
start the

season with about 100 boats in our database and many don’t join us
until after several races. When they start racing, there are often
several that come out at the same time. The way the wizard used to
work was a real convenience. I can live with Phil’s suggestion
to “just un-exclude not scored boats” if there is an easy way
to un-

exclude everyone but I can’t find it and I don’t want to un-exclude
them by hand when there might be 65 of them and I don’t want to
search for them in the list.

V1.95 Build 6

Just used this for real for first time. I am finding that only
sail

numbers that already have a result are being found by the sail
number

result entry wizard.

Those boats which are in the file but are excluded because they
have

no result as yet are not being found.

My usual way of setting up a new series is to pick up a previous
series, then zero all the results out, rescore and mark all as
excluded to start with. This has not previously resulted in the
Sail

Number wizard not finding these. Setting “View” to show all (Ie,
not

to exclude unsailed competitors) does not make any difference.

There must be some setting that has got itself changed in moving
to

the new version and clearing out the old results. Question is,
what???!

Any help much appreciated.

Mike,

The procedure I gave has to be gone through for each race. I am sure like a lot of other people that the Sail Number Wizard used to recognise and therefore pull up the sail number if the competitor had been marked as excluded. The instructions I gave are just a workaround at present.

I am not sure where Colin is in development at present but I do know that there are something’s he may working on regarding uploading individual race information to a website for analysis. I cannot say more at present but watch this space as they say! I have exchanged emails with Colin on the Sail Number Wizard not recognising sail numbers of excluded competitors and it is the list of things to look at in his development plan behind some other things.

Folks please be patient I know Colin has been very busy with his day job for the last couple of months and Sailwave has had to take a bit of a back seat. As far as Sailwave goes he does have a date coming up for which the functionality I mentioned earlier is required so his focus will be there before other aspects of Sailwave. There is also a scoring issue he is looking at in regard to the Laser Class World standard sailing instructions and the way they count discards, which was highlighted recently.

Kind regards,

Huw

the results are input.
Doing it at home its much quicker not to use the SNW, but I
wonder how

easy it is to scroll down to find the BOAT/CELL in the heat of
battle,

rather than entering the SAIL NO in the SNW.

Numbers

I agree with Chris that this will be a real pain because we
start the

season with about 100 boats in our database and many don’t
join us

until after several races. When they start racing, there
are often

several that come out at the same time. The way the wizard
used to

work was a real convenience. I can live with Phil’s suggestion
to “just un-exclude not scored boats” if there is an easy way
to un-

exclude everyone but I can’t find it and I don’t want to
un-exclude

them by hand when there might be 65 of them and I don’t want to
search for them in the list.

Subject: [sailwave] Sail Number wizard Not Finding Sail
Numbers

V1.95 Build 6

Just used this for real for first time. I am finding
that only

sail

numbers that already have a result are being found by
the sail

number

result entry wizard.

Those boats which are in the file but are excluded
because they

have

no result as yet are not being found.

My usual way of setting up a new series is to pick up a
previous

series, then zero all the results out, rescore and mark
all as

excluded to start with. This has not previously resulted
in the

Sail

Number wizard not finding these. Setting “View” to show
all (Ie,

not

to exclude unsailed competitors) does not make any
difference.

There must be some setting that has got itself changed
in moving

to

the new version and clearing out the old results.
Question is,

what???!

Any help much appreciated.

Huw
Thanks for your help with this. Sailwave is a brilliant system, and a
great credit to Colin's committment.
Regards
Mike

Mike,

The procedure I gave has to be gone through for each race. I am sure

like a

lot of other people that the Sail Number Wizard used to recognise and
therefore pull up the sail number if the competitor had been marked as
excluded. The instructions I gave are just a workaround at present.

I am not sure where Colin is in development at present but I do know

that

there are something's he may working on regarding uploading

individual race

information to a website for analysis. I cannot say more at present but
watch this space as they say! I have exchanged emails with Colin on

the Sail

Number Wizard not recognising sail numbers of excluded competitors

and it is

the list of things to look at in his development plan behind some other
things.

Folks please be patient I know Colin has been very busy with his day

job for

the last couple of months and Sailwave has had to take a bit of a

back seat.

As far as Sailwave goes he does have a date coming up for which the
functionality I mentioned earlier is required so his focus will be there
before other aspects of Sailwave. There is also a scoring issue he is
looking at in regard to the Laser Class World standard sailing

instructions

and the way they count discards, which was highlighted recently.

Kind regards,
Huw

  Huw
Thanks for such a quick response. No I hadn't. But I have now done
that and it works. But then if I go to the next race, I seem to have
to go thru the Tools/Set competitor field again - even tho it is
already set. But I can see it does work and does allow you to use the
SN WIZARD. Its really useful to set the column to view - you can see
  what is going on.
But I am still left thinking it is easier not to use the WIZARD at

all.

It does seem much more convenient to enter results by double clicking

on the BOAT/RACE cell instead of using the WIZARD.<

After a second set of race entries, I too have come to this conclusion,
as even setting/unsetting the excluded value seems to not guarantee
finding a not yet competed competitor in the sail number wizard. And
dodging around a long list of not yet competed boats to enter in the
individual race cell of lots of different classes is a pain in the
proverbial. WGuch is why the wizardcame about I imagine!

Please can we have the old behaviour back? Which is, that the sail
number wizard will ignore the excluded field value and just find what
it is asked to!
