Sail Number Wizard

Hi, I am new to Sailwave, have looked through the messages but can't find what I am looking for, so need your help please.

When using Sail Number Wizard is it poosible to have the name of the boat also display when you input the sail number?

I get the results phoned to me to input and this would help with establishing that we are talking about the same boat. (Committee boat gives me the Sail Number, I input it and give them the boat name, they agree or disagree)

Thank for your help
Roger

Hi Roger,

Welcome to Sailwave. Yes by default as you type in the SailNo into the Sail num wizard the boat class, Helm, Sail No and Boat name are displayed.

You can also do it in reverse by typing in the Boat name and the same data is displayed.

Additionally if you are typing in Sail numbers but they give you a boat name because they couldn’t read the sail no. Put an “*” in the where you were typing the sail number. Then in the box below start typing the name of the boat and its details will be displayed. Its very user friendly.

Hope this helps - don’t hesitate to come back with any further questions

Thanks for your prompt reply John. You say by default I should see the Boat Name, does that mean that I have somehow altered something and now I don't get the boat name showing only the Class and nothing else? I used Sailwave recently to score the Dragon Eastern's and I did get the Boat Names and have checked to see if i did anything different but as far as I can see all looks the same in my setup but still no Boat Names. Because the series I am scoring has about 17 races overal I am only using the Sail Number, Boat Name and Class. Not having the boat name showing doesn't concren me at the moment as I start and finish the racing but when it is done from a committee baot it is nice to confirm that we are talking about the same yacht.

Hi Roger,

Normally I would expect you to see something similar to this

Inline images 1

You can see while you are entering the SailNo that you see the Class, SailNo, Helm Name and the Boat Name. It will only be visible while you are entering the SailNo.

Is it displayed if you enter a * and then start typing the Boat name in the bottom text box?

I assume you are using th Boat column for the Boat Name and haven’t renamed a different column

Hi, Yes I can confirm that I am using the latest version 2.9.7 of Sailwave. I have just opened another file, added two competitors and the same thing happens. When I use the result wizard and enter the sail number all I get is the sail number showing twice with no boat name etc.
Jon in yor last reply I assume you were trying to show me what I should be seeing, all I got was a blank space.

Thanks for your prompt reply John. You say by default I should see

the Boat Name, does that mean that I have somehow altered

something and now I don’t get the boat name showing only the Class

and nothing else? I used Sailwave recently to score the Dragon

Eastern’s and I did get the Boat Names and have checked to see if

i did anything different but as far as I can see all looks the

same in my setup but still no Boat Names. Because the series I am

scoring has about 17 races overal I am only using the Sail Number,

Boat Name and Class. Not having the boat name showing doesn’t

concren me at the moment as I start and finish the racing but when

it is done from a committee baot it is nice to confirm that we are

talking about the same yacht.

Hi Roger,

Welcome to Sailwave. Yes by default as you type in the SailNo

into the

Sail num wizard the boat class, Helm, Sail No and Boat name are

displayed.

You can also do it in reverse by typing in the Boat name and the

same data

is displayed.

Additionally if you are typing in Sail numbers but they give you

a boat

name because they couldn’t read the sail no. Put an “*” in the

where you

were typing the sail number. Then in the box below start typing

the name

of the boat and its details will be displayed. Its very user

friendly.

Hope this helps - don’t hesitate to come back with any further

Hi, I am new to Sailwave, have looked through the messages but

can’t find

what I am looking for, so need your help please.

When using Sail Number Wizard is it poosible to have the name

of the boat

also display when you input the sail number?

I get the results phoned to me to input and this would help with

establishing that we are talking about the same boat.

(Committee boat gives

me the Sail Number, I input it and give them the boat name,

they agree or

disagree)

Thank for your help

Roger

Hi Huw,
Thanks for you offer to help. I have sorted my problem now, it would appear that if you only have the Sail Number and Boatname it doesn't the boat name in the wizard unless you have the Helm and Crew listed. As I don't want the helm and crew listed so that I get better chance of getting 20 races on one sheet I now put the Boat Name down as the helm and hey presto I get what I want showing when using the results wizard. Obviosly a software update required to recognise the boat name somehwere.

Best regards Roger
