Sailnumber wizard PLUS key to enter

Wizzard plus the Plus key is fantastic...
Wizzard plus the plus key can get you into big trouble.

When scoring by Place and using the plus key to enter a result and then move to the next sail number… ... IF the race cell has a previous finish position…. (Because for example… you have crappy score sheets… and you are re entering finishes….) The plus key method will ACCEPT the existing value that you want to change and ignore the increment that you think you are changing. …. The return key of course will show you the old value and FORCE you to enter a new place manually.

I suggest that you test for a number already in the cell and in that case… you open up the full data entry window!! That will slow the process down enough to get things right.

The careful practice of sorting by Fleet and then race and showing recorded finishes to flag a typo… is the way to catch this error but when 170 kids are clamoring for results…. AND a bunch of 8 year olds are crying about the scoring…. AND you have to wait for the protest for the crying 8 years olds and their two year old parents… You tend to wing it. (Don't ask me how I know).

Hi Mark,

The Wizard has a check box Don’t show competitors that already have a result for this race If you tick this, which is what I always do, then this solves the problem because you can’ t then enter the Sail number if they already have a place. It catches typo’s and competitors recrossing the finish line etc.

I know it’s not an easy job - I do it myself regularly - But practise makes perfect (well almost) as with most tasks. I also usually sort by the race after entering a race and look for any missing entries and see if we know why they didn’t get a result.

That will do it.... (never used that box before)

Oh I agree.... the thunderstorm was making life interesting at the time...

Thanks
