[sailwave] Alias

Hi Laura and Mike,

I've added a field to Edit+Competitor to say "inherit my results from this
competitor", and you choose "this competitor" from a drop down list. This
means that you can use the Edit+NewCompetitorLike menu to create new
competitors which are copies of existing ones, mark them as inheriting their
results from the original competitor and then change any fields as
appropriate, like the fleet and rating value.

The SailNo wizard is aware of these competitors and so is edit+result which
does not allow their results to be edited. Other than, that they operate
the same as any other competitor.

Seems to work OK.

I'll upload it later tonight.

I can think of lots of refinements but the essentials are there to work
from.

Regards,
Colin J

'This is not entirely satisfactory and I'm thinking about another
concept or
'shape' development, which is to introduce the concept of a 'competitor
alias'. A competitor alias will automatically inherit the results of the
real competitor that it is an alias of but you'll be able to change fields
in the alias competitor record. Meaning that one person can be
in more than
one class/flight/fleet etc. While I find this fairly attractive, it adds
yet another layer of complexity, but at least its optional, like
starts and
scoring rules; they can be ignored if not needed.

The other approach would be to add a 'score by these fields and publish'
mechanism, so that the 4 score+publish actions were done by
Sailwave and not
by you.

Any thoughts...(anybody)?'

Anything that cuts down the opportunity for human error is good. We have
boats that are scored on PY and personal handicap and we at
present have to
enter their result twice, so the above sounds good.

Laura
