Sailwave behaiviour

The situation is:

A long series of average lap races with several starts. The start time is determined by fleet: Laser, Aero, F15, Menagerie etc. Starts at 0, 3, 6, …. minutes.

One competitor has gone through the season with the wrong fleet allocated so their elapsed times are all 3 minutes out.

In the competitor information, the start is correct but start time is set to be determined by fleet for each race.

I assumed correcting the fleet would correct all this competitors results but it makes no difference at all.

Changing each individual race start time seems to be the only option. Is this correct? An unusual situation and I can come up with all sorts of logic as to why it would work one way or another.

Hi Paul,

If you care to send me the Sailwave file and the information on the competitor assigned wrong fleet. I will take a look to see if I can work out a way that does not involve changing each individual start for the competitor.

Kind regards,
Huw

Hi Huw,

The competitor is Sian Clark, Aero 6, 4467, 6th place overall. She is down as in the F15 fleet, so starting at 6 minutes rather than 3.
It is not a big problem manually adjusting those results. I am more interested in increasing my understanding and bringing it to your attention if the behaviour is unexpected.

These results had not been published otherwise it would have been spotted!
The scorer for this series is new, picking up old work and the file setup has certain historical aspects which point towards ‘I wouldn’t start from there’ There may be other things I spot when converting to 1 start to upload to the RYA.

As always, the best answer would be to find a ‘silly mistake’ we can take it!

regards,
Paul

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the file, I will look in more detail in a couple of hours as I have to go out.

I have noticed that there is a second competitor wrongly tagged F15 Fleet!
RS Aero 5 sail# 4320 J Kelly currently 56th overall

Kind regards,
Huw

Hi Paul,
The start times and the computed elapsed times are set in the competitor when they are set in the race start, or if you edit them they are updated so the quick answer is for the races that they sailed in go to the edit race and double click the start they are in and then click OK you don’t need to change anything but it will force Sailwave to check and update all the start times for that race for that fleet

When you click OK you will get a message

Repeat for each race they were in Then rescore
I also note that it was last scored with version 2.37.0 you/they need to be using 2.38.2 or later ti conform with RRS 2025-

Jon

Hi Paul,

Jon has explained the solution very well.

I would add that you can quickly check the start times for every competitor by switching the screen view to show the start times. Click down arrow to right of highlighted box and select start time.

Kind regards,
Huw

Hi Paul,

You will get a warning when you re-score the series about no boats on Start 3,

Race: Race 1
Competitor: Aero - RS Aero 5 3528 I Green
Result:
No competitors in start - Start 3 of race 1.

This is because there are no boats in the F15 start! You can click the suppress errors button and the series will be re-scored. Alternatively, remove start 3 from all races by doing so for R1 and then copy starts to all other races.

Kind regards,
Huw
