Thanks v much - that's pretty comprehensive! (Although not, I believe, the transfer method we were discussing - using a direct upload to the site). Last time I looked at the Sailwave results page all the files came up with 'No data in this file' but maybe that was temporary or maybe they've cleared out the archive for the new season.

Something is odd when you look at http://results.sailwave.com in a browser. The links to the files in the directory are like
http://sailwave.com//testtest.htm
If you edit it to be http://results.sailwave.com/tessttest.htm it displays OK
I saw some earlier messages about Sailwave switching to a new server. I think you need to be running the latest version of Sailwave for the posting of trsults to work with the new server.

We use the FTP facility in Sailwave exclusively, and it's never been a problem. As was said before, you have to agree with the webmaster on the name that you will use. Usually I set up the files for the on-the-water folks, making sure that the FTP information (FTP address, user ID, password and name of the file) is pre-set in the file. If you have problems with the upload, sometimes it helps to tell Sailwave to use passive transfers.
One thing that I do as a test prior to the event - I set up the file with the competitors and do an FTP transfer with a Competitor List. That gives me a placeholder on the web site that I can use to make sure I've got my links right. Then I just leave the competitor list on the web site until the on-the-water folks start getting results and publishing.
More often than not, we can have daily provisional results posted on the web site before the Committee Boat gets to the dock (using cellular modems). Then all we have to do is re-score / re-publish if we've had a successful protest.
