Subject: Sailwave Licence Agreement

I'm thinking of introducing the concept of a licence agreement in
v1.42. All the agreement will say is something to the effect of -
if you press the Agree button you are agreeing to leave the link to
sailwave (and any other links I so choose to include) in the footer
of any published results and agree to include a link to Sailwave on
your web site - if you have one. Also that any templates you create
youself include a link to the same in the results footer.

While I am dedicated in principle to Sailwave remaining a free
resource, It would be nice to get some 'pocket money' back or be able
to barter merchanside in exchange for advertising on the site or
maybe find a main sponsor for the software itself... The idea of the
links in the footer is so that I can demonstrate usage because they
show up in Google searches for example. I currently "request" the
deal in para 1 above on the web site and in the FAQ, but it's
silently denied in a lot of cases...

Any comments from the SUG either way welcome. Seems a small price to
pay for a free Sailwave...?

We at Ballyholme Yacht Club are happy to leave any links you wish to place
in the footer alone. If you can get some pocket money I all for that.

Hi Colin,

there is no problem for me to leave all the links on all Sailwave
outputs.
On our sailing club website I've already included the linked sailwave
logo.

Sailwave as a free rescource is invaluable not least in that it removes one

I think it is an excellent idea. As you know it is fully linked in from
YachtsandYachting.com and any reports I receive with Sailwave results have a
link to the Sailwave website.

BTW, if anyone wants to send in their regatta results to
YachtsandYachting.com use the plug-in. I will also link to your club or
class website.

Hi Richard,

I expect that I speak for the entire user group when I say that we

are

deeply indebted to you for developing such an excellent program

and, more,

for putting up with our winges and ridiculous requests.

Sailwave as a free rescource is invaluable not least in that it

removes one

financial argument away from Main Committee! But, if you can make

any

income indirectly from the program, of course you must!

I am in turn indebted to the SUG members for the feedback and ideas;
Sailwave is driven more and more by the SUG these days.

To All,

Thanks for the responses.

I've just realised that my previous message may be giving out the
wrong signals - it wasn't SUG/Mailing-List members I was thinking
about, rather those that download - don't join either the mailing
list or the SUG - use it - publish results and *deliberately* lop off
the sailwave references (I *do* understand that they are often lost
by accident). This is the use I was attempting to target with the
agreement and wondered if the SUG thought it a resonable way forward
or if anybody thought would significantly hinder the use of
Sailwave.

Can I dig this hole any deeper...

Regards,
Colin

Dear Colin:

I agree with Richard. Although I love free stuff I know you spend
many hours of your valuble time with Sailwave and all of us. The product
being
one super rating program, making all of our jobs alot easier. You
deffenetely should
make money out of it. Alot of worse scoring programs do. My club(Club
Nautico de
Puerto Rico) will be more than willing to compensate you.
The licence agreement is not a bad idea. Sailwave is your intelectual
property.

I know the people from my website still hasn't added your link. I talk to
them on monday ordering it as urgent. I'll be nagging them till they get it
done.
The scores I handed out at the regatta did have your link at the last page.
Saludos,
R.
