My file of PHRS time on time as a custom rating is attached. Hope it helps.

Thank you all for your answers to my questions yesterday.
The one that is still stumping me is how to make our PHRF
time-on-time
handicapping work.
Does anyone have a file with Custom rating that I could look at to
figure out what I'm doing wrong?
Can you give me any hints for why I'm having trouble getting the e=
and r= formulae to be consistent? (Besides having problems with
algebra, I mean.) Is it necessary to have them consistent in order
to
get the corrected-time to come out?
My formulae (from PHRF-Lake Ontario) are
c = e * ( 685.411 / ( 514.411 + r))
e = c * (r + 514.411) / 685.411
r = (685.411 * e / c ) - 514.411
Thanks again,
Louise Mallory

I recently updated my ratings library with the 2002 Portsmouth
handicaps. The handicaps for all the boats in my data base retained
the 2001 numbers & I can't figure out how to make them update to the
2002 numbers. If I add a new competitor, they receive the 2002
numbers. Do I need to reload all of the boats in my data base? I have
about 100 boats in it. Any ideas?

c = e * ( 685.411 / ( 514.411 + r))
e = c * (r + 514.411) / 685.411
r = (685.411 * e / c ) - 514.411
Wouldn't r be:-
r = (685.411*e - 514.411*c)/c
Send me the series (the .blw file) if you're still having trouble...

After you input your race and you decide that the beufort number is a
2 and you input that in the edit race portion.
Should the program automatically adjust each racers handicap to a 2
from their handicap #'s or do I have to put their HC number in the
default column.
Thanks

Sailwaves ratings.txt does not retrospectively update any existing
ratings. Otherwise a series scored in 2001 could produce a different result
when rescored in 2002. (I think Colin is working on having an option to use
'new' or 'existing' ratings when a series is scored). For the moment you
don't have to change all 100 entrants but you do have to change 1 entrant
for every class of boat sailed. Goto 'edit' 'edit all competitors'
highlight 'all competitors with this class' scroll to class being changed,
highlight 'set default ratings to' enter the new PY number, click 'OK' and
repeat until each class has been catered for.
Out of the 100s of boats in the ratings.txt only a few will be sailed
at your club and only a few of these will have changed their h'cap so if
your lucky you'll probably only need to change a couple of classes each
year. (Any new classes added later will, as you say, pick up the new
rating).
Hope this helps
