[sailwave] Digest Number 411

Hi Colin,

Still hassling with elapsed times. A work around was to enter the fleet
start time as 00:00:00. And you got it that a rating system has to be
activated else Sailwave wants only numeric finishing positions. Using a
finish elapsed time of 005512 in the Sail Num Wiz, I still get an error
when I try to score saying " 005512 is an invalid recorded finishing
position; there are only 25 competitors in the series. Use finishing
codes for retirements."

It appears your formats stated in your message and repeated below are
not always valid. If I use 00:55:12 in the Sail Num Wizard the elapsed
times gets accepted OK when I score the series. Still using 1.47b3.

"Start/finish times can be of the forms:-

hh:mm
hh:mm:ss
hhmm
hhmmss

Notice that mm:ss or mmss is not valid. i.e. start time or finish time
must specify the hour - I think this is sensible - hh:mm being more of
an elapsed time specification. Moot?

CJ"

Regards,
Rob

Rob,

At present hhmmss is only valid as a start/finish time, not an elapsed time.
I can allow an elapsed time of the form hhmmss but it conflicts with
entering elapsed times as seconds. I'll need to think about it because it's
possible to have the same problem with finish times - i.e. a timer pumps out
seconds.

I'm really confused... but then I'm a new user. I tried entering hhmmss
as start/finish times in Sailwave 1.45. If the start time is 120500 and
the finish time is 132000, the program correctly calculates the elapsed
time as 01:15:00. If the finish time is 132001, I expect the elapsed
time to be 01:15:01, but the program calculates 01:16:00. Am I missing
something or have I stumbled on a bug? Our racing starts in three
weeks, so I am only getting set up and testing with old data, but so far
I am very pleased and impressed!

Confirmed, fixed and uploaded as 1.47 beta5. This also fixes the problem
with the sailno wizard not recognising start times or elapsed times if a
rating system is not set.

Colin

We discourage the use of recording elapsed time and instead recording the time of day that a boat finishes. I would encourage others to do the same, it is much easier to find and recover from errors, also you can have multiple people on multiple boats calling finish times.
