[sailwave] Digest Number 83

Barb,
I am using Sailwave here in New England. I was able to get a copy of the tables
from Darlene in a .csv file back in
May (I think).

All I did was put it into Excel, cut out the columns I didn't need, and export
it back out to a csv file.
I could send you the original file I got, or the Ratings.txt file that I am
using. It has the cats listed that
I usually see in our races, plus some with the H or L handicaps. I think I have
several spin. combos' also.

There are drawbacks to both files: The one from Darline does not have the
updates that occurred during the
summer. The one I use does not have a complete set of cats.

I thought for a while the tables were available in a .csv format from the Us
sailing page, but I do not see that
now.

Or I could upload it to the sailwave yahoo web site.

I also saw a second note about the sailwave interface not doing a permanent
save. I have not had any issues
with saving changes.

Subject: help: import the complete USSA PN database

I've just stumbled across Sailwave and fallen in love with it. At Colin's
suggestion I am consulting the user group community for some initial
assistance.

Has any USA users already set up or figured out a way to import all the USSA
PN data into Sailwave? Seems I would be here for the next 10 years trying
to enter all the data and verify that my data entry is accurate.

I'm trying to figure out how to basically do an initial "load" so that the
program is completely set up and ready to be used by any data entry person
we have helping us. I can't rely on them to create entries as needed as
they go because they won't have that kind of knowledge, nor should their
data entry be trusted.

Thanks folks,
Barb Short

Colin,
You do need to have a Yahoo identity at least and scrolling thru the
member list nearly half the members already have those. Bit of a
bugger i know but it allows you then to access all the hundreds of
other sailing egroups and clubs. This requirement is fairly new but
doesn't appear to be intrusive. Historically this was "onelist",
then "eGroups" before Yahoo! bought it and then the dot com bubble
burst making all these free services less attractive, but as i say
the yahoo marketing doesn't appear intrusive at all. You will not be
able to access the message archives without it, of which this one
will be 276.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sailwave/messages

I will make it clear on the joining email the need to get yahoo'd up
to really get the benefit of the sailwave usergroup site
