Sailwave - Discards

How can I apply different discards to each fleet? For example, we have a Thursday series of 12 races and there are 7 classes or "fleets" (PY yachts, Shrimpers, Ajax etc)
I set the discard profile and that's OK for the classes that actually did 12 races but some classes decided not to sail some days because of the conditions or clashes with championships etc so their profile needs to reflect say only 8 races. In the past I decided that as sailwave has the discard profile set as a global setting, thus applying to all boats in a series, if a class fails to turn up that's just tough but our commodore insists we should apply the profile for the races actually sailed by each class. The ABYC manual is not much help but I did try! Any help much appreciated. A formula might be better than the o,o,o,1,2,3 etc method.

In the scoring system "series scoring" tab you can define the discard profile as an expression. The variable s represents the number of races sailed. So an expression of s-4 should do what you want. i.e. discard s-4 races leaving 4 not discarded. When only 1,2 or 3 races have been sailed the negative result is forced to be 0, so it should work OK in that context too.

Hi Graham,

No problem - you can have different discard profiles for different fleets

Just select Edit scoring system and then select the Fleets tab

Create a new one and edit it then select the Series scoring tab

You should see something similar to this.

Inline images 2

Untick the Inherit for the discard profile and Change the discard profile to that required.

Don’t forget to change the Edit Me highlighted to be that of the fleet that you want to change the discard profile for.

That should be it.

When a fleet does not race because of the conditions or clashes with championships etc. Are those races scored for those fleets or are they left blank?

If an entire fleet is scored DNC for a race then Sailwave will count that race when applying the discard profile, whereas if the fleet is not scored it will not count that race. In a twelve race series if a fleet only sails eight races, if a fleet does not sail races 4, 7, 9, 11. The profile will be applied differently if the races are left blank or scored DNC.

1-2-1- -3-(4)- -2- -2- -1
