[sailwave] E% C%

I will dump E% C% and add the 'To Win' column (I changed my mind about the
column name) but I think it should be calculated as I mentioned rather then
a difference of corrected times - which is not necessarily meaningful
number... I think... Actually lets play with an example. Say Corrected =
Rating * Elapsed.

A Elapsed = 3600sec
A Rating = 0.95
A Corrected = 4320sec

B Elapsed = 4000sec
B Rating = 0.94
B Corrected = 3760sec

So A is 560sec behind B on corrected time.

But the elapsed time A needed to put in to tie with B is 3760/0.95=3958sec.

So the way I see it, which is not necessarily correct is that A needs to
sail 358sec faster 'to win', not 560sec...

Colin,
Yes, I understand and I agree. The fundamental question is "How many seconds
closer behind the guy in front of me do I have to be to beat him?"

This sounds like it could get hairy if you expand it to how many seconds to
take 2nd by the 3rd place boat, how many seconds to take 3rd by the 4th boat,
and so on. THEN you can take it to the next level, and the next. How many
seconds to take 1st, 2nd or 3rd by the 15th boat...ack... A computer could do
that easily, a person sure wouldn't want to. If this is something worth doing,
it sounds like having the program generate a matrix sort of like this:

Place 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th
sail # 3450 12101 5032 2103 447

Time to
win
1st xx:xx xx:xx xx:xx xx:xx
2nd xx:xx xx:xx xx:xx
3rd xx:xx xx:xx
4th xx:xx

So you can tell what the 5th boat needs to shave off their time to move up a
place, two places, or to the top of the fleet. I'm not sure how many people
are interested in anything other than the boat in front and the top of the
fleet. But something to consider.

By the way, you transposed the first two digits in the 'A corrected'
example...
Just so you know we're checking your math....

Certainly, and easy to do - a 'to win' matrix... nice.
