and Sailwave
Some useful info
Entries are recorded by the Class.
The Class provides a competitors list under the form of an Excel file.
Seeding for flights is based on ISAF ranking or Class ranking and is
included in the file.
Seeding may also be made in Sailwave/ZWscoring by entering the ISAF/Class
ranking as a 1st race, then assigning files, and deleting or best
invalidating this race.
To avoid problems, we were working on two work stations, one for Laser (3
flights), one for Laser Radial Male (2 flights), one for Laser Radial Female
(2 flights), shadow of
Best have a discipline of assignment of file names, and work always on new
copies of the file (LAS_0709_beforeraces, LRM_0709_afterraces,
LRF_0709_afterjury), so if something happens, you can re-start from the
previous copy. Also take a log of all your actions (Excel file)
The flights are re-assigned every day, usually we provide a provisional set
of results to the Jury as soon as results are recorded and CONTROLLED.
Note Laser Class uses 6-digit sail numbers, the last 4 are commonly used but
there can be duplicates between 170000 and 180000, perhaps this year 190000,
and all duplicates in 2008 were in the same fleet.
Immediate display of the finishing orders helps sorting this out…
competitors do the job.
After dinner (21:00), you may assign the flights for the next day, it takes
just minutes, have a copy signed by the PRO and displayed on the notice
board.
Less stress once the flights are assigned to Gold, Silver and Bronze, no
more evening re-assignments. But major stress on the day of assignment, as
this determines forever the positions ober or under the limits. Quickly
check if some decisions of the Jury may have an influence (is the separation
is made between boats with very large difference of points, no problem, if
the separation is narrow and boats in this area involved in protests, maybe
you don’t have a delightful evening…
We had one fleet (Laser standard) working with on-board encoding, the other
with encoding in the race office. Working on board implies a huge traffic
of USB-keys, and once the encoder on board used a wrong source file, so the
flights were not assigned properly and it took a lot of time to restore a
sane situation.
On the contrary, we experienced very few problems with ashore encoding, even
if the job was finished later and some social drinks were lost.
Note: Penalties in points are NOT STANDARD.
