[sailwave] Elapsed Time Scoring

Steve

Any chance you can make available your
Visual Basic programme and or hardware / wiring system information. I
have been looking for a computerised race management / starting / finishing
system on and off for a couple of years, but as yet, have not found anything
which quite does what we need. We tend to stick to fairly standard ISAF
type rules for class and handicap racing, except that we start at 3 minute
intervals when we have multiple fleets. Hence would need to be able to
edit starting sequences etc without having to delve too much into programming (am
basically an idiot when it comes to programming).

Thanks for the cautionary note Mark,

We used to do the same but I have written a Visual
Basic programme to control a relay board (with manual override
controls at 12volts if the 240 mains is lost) to do the start sequence lights
and klaxon in timed sequence and thence to count up - push one button to
do the whole start sequence. When fully operational the RO can click on a boat
number on screen to advance it by one lap or finish and it
automatically stores the intermediate/finish time. One laugh is that
it works OK at home but when I tried it at the club everything worked fine in
terms of timing and sequence - but the klaxon did not turn off !!! -
Calls from visual basic to the light relay and klaxon relay at T=0 (start)
blocked turning it off (old slow PC at the club needs replacing!).

At present we use a desktop countdown/up timer from 5
minutes and thus time for each lap and finish is elapsed time. The PC
based system will replace it when the programme is debugged and silence is
heard after the start.

On
version 1.84 (onwards) you set the default under the series options (race
scoring tab), but can then override this by editing the race by either right
clicking on the race column or within the sail number wizard - select the start
to be edited and then click edit, and amend the Finishes to be recorded as drop
down box.

This
is also where you find the information for the course, wind strength etc that
used to be seen on the front sheet when editing a race.

I
hope that this helps.

You can also right click individual race column headers to do this, and

set up the race start times, on a race-by-race basis.
