[sailwave] FW: New User (via CJ)

Hi Peter,

Unfortunately, the action you describe won't help Fraser - here in

Vancouver, we often have several starts at 5 minute intervals for different
classes on the same course. At the finish, the classes are, of course,
mixed up, and we just record sail number and finish time - there is often
no time to figure out what class each boat is in. The person entering
times in the result program doesn't want to figure out who is in which
class either - that should be a "computer job", and our ancient
user-hostile DOS program would take care of the problem. The first step
when entering results was (IIRC) to enter the start times for each class,
then we could enter the sail numbers and finish times without regard to
class, and the program would apply the correct start time to each boat.<

Ah, I understand. I can do something about that, but it'll be Sailwave
looking to see if there is a previous boat in the same fleet AND class - and
using that start time rather then anything explicit (because not everybody
works like that). i.e. you'll have to enter the correct start time once per
class and Sailwave'll catch on to what is happening thereafter.

While thinking about PHRF (or other handicap) scoring, it would be nice to

have both elapsed time and corrected time displayed simultaneously both
on-screen and on the printout when viewing a single race.<

I've tried to keep the actual Sailwave on-screen stuff as basic as possible
while having the capability to publish race details as you describe. But I
must admit, this is one instance where the majority viewpoint is with you...
I'll have a fiddle over Xmas. What I was think of if is putting the series
as shown now on a tab and then having a tab for each race... columns would
be similar to those published.

Regards,
Colin J

As I read this, I think you mean that the scorer will have to watch for the first boat of each class as he is entering finishes, and enter the appropriate start time as he enters the finish for that boat.

That still leaves the scorer with the problem of identifying the classes of the boats, having only the sail number.

Would it not be possible to have the scorer enter the start times for each class as a separate step _before_ entering any finishes?
