[sailwave] Importing CSV Files

Hi Rob and all others...

This is very simple. But you must keep in mind that you can only import competitors, places and codes one at a time. I run into the same problem a few years ago. This is how it works:

You need separate csv-files

File1.csv - containing all data that you need, could be a complete ragatta, riped from the net(!?). Don´t map racedata, just competitor information.

File2.csv - containing results from one race, but not the codes
RaceNo,SailNo,Place
1,123,1
1,124,2 and so on
2,123,1

File3.csv - containing codes (eg DSQ, OCS...)
RaceNo, SailNo,Code
2,124,DSQ

Hope this explain how it works.

Folks

I have been attempting to import files from Excel
file saved to .csv.

I keep getting an "Error line2:No race no
specified"

There is nothing wrong with the files, which have
come from two different sources.

Any ideas?

Rob

Hi

I might have taken this a bit further than Anders

The key to importing is to understand how SW selects data to import.

When you follow the import data, SW allows you to chose the field (ie column in the spreadsheet)

You can have multiple columns (race data) all in one file & just select the columns you wish to import this time

So if you want to import 2 lots of data at different times, just put them in different columns

Tip! make sure you use a column title which shows which column is which, when you get to the SW import window

I use the attached file for testing Qualification & Finals scoring over a series

You will see that I have the results for a whole series in a single csv file.

The file contains data for different days structured as follows:

RaceNoQDay1 - in my example I have 3 races on Day 1 of the Qualification series

SailQDay1 - the sail number of the boat

PlaceQDay1 - the finishing position of the boat

CodeQDay1 - the letter code if the boat did not finish

Column B can be ignored - I used it to record which flight the boats were in so that I could prepare valid test data

When I import the data, I simply set each column I do not need to ‘IGNORE’

Anders, let me know if this works for you

I also have sample .blw files for practicing and a Help file (in Microsoft Word)

Unfortunately I had to stop testing v1.95b6 because of the problems which John had in New Zealand

My last email was 17.2.08 Appendix LE Add C version 1.95b6 TIE BREAK PROBLEM

Not sure if Colin managed to get round to fixing it

Regards

Ralph
