Sailwave in the WineHQ App Database

Colin and others,

I'm maintainer of the Sailwave entry in the WineHQ Application Database.

Based on my recent tests, and the comments that I've heard from others recently, I've upgraded Sailwave's status from "Gold" (almost everything works), to "Platinum" (everything works out of the box) for Sailwave version 2.4.1 on Linux Mint 12 (64bit) using Wine version 1.3.35. This includes the font problem.

If others have similar experiences on other versions of Linux and Wine, please let me know by PM (andy@sailor.nu).

I also need to know if anything, and I mean *anything*, is not working on Sailwave under Wine, so that I can update the application entry accordingly.

Andy

Thanks Andy. I’ll link to the page form the
Sailwave site somewhere and write a note about it

Cheers,

Hi Andy,

Just trying to get Sailwave working under WINE on openSUSE 12.1 and

currently failing: the steps followed so far are

  • installed openSUSE Gnome desktop (Gnome3) in VirtualBox VM

    from DVD
  • installed WINE 1.3.30 from DVD repositories
  • used winetricks in terminal window to install core fonts
  • downloaded Sailwave b2.4.4
  • installed using WINE
  • started Sailwave from command line in terminal window and I

    get the following
                      Files/Sailwave> wine ./sailwave.exe

Huw,

I get a similar output starting SW from a terminal.

What happens if you run SW with wine from a lister (e.g Nautilus)?

Or open a *.blw file with SW under wine?

Hi Andy,

Should have said in previous message that Sailwave window appears

briefly before disappearing.

Just completed the following steps:
  • uninstalled WINE 1.3.30

work, need to test with one of my old Sailwave files from
earlier this year - either Sail for Gold or 470 Europeans, but
    get the following messages
  • Files/Sailwave> wine --version

Just another datapoint on this... I tried installing sailwave 2.4.7 on the version of wine contained in the Linux Mint 12 system repository and experienced the same issue described here with the app appearing momentarily and then disappearing. The wine version turned out to be 1.3.28.

I then installed wine1.3 from the winehq ppa as described here - http://www.winehq.org/download/ubuntu and it turns out this is actually wine-1.4-rc2. Sailwave 2.4.7 now seems to be working fine.

Thanks Mark. Wine version 1.3.37 and beyond (including the new 1.4 RC versions) seem to work 100%, including elimination of the old font problems.

Hi,

I have just tried an app for Mac that allows you to run Sailwave direct under Mac OSX.

WinOnX - http://www.winonx.com/

It runs wineversion 1.3.37

The testing of Sailwave works great, better than Winebottler...

How did you get it to unpack sailwave - I get the error ‘can not be extracted with this program’

I got it to run when I loaded it from the dock. As you said, it works fine after that.

Just need to suss out how to get it to work with dropbox next

Hi William,

If the Mac works in same way as Windows PC & Linux, Sailwave

should just work with Dropbox. Under Windows & Linux Dropbox is
just a folder and Sailwave works with folders.

I use Dropbox under Windows and Linux so I can use the same Sailwave

files and so far have had no problem. Under Linux that is a slightly
added complication as my Linux instances are actually running in a
virtual machine envirnoment for which I use Virtualbox.

Kind regards,

Huw

I have not tried Dropbox much, but i think you need to install the “Windows version” into WinOnX to get it work.

Hi Anders & William and other Mac users,

Reading the Mac page on the Dropbox web site

() would suggest to me
that it is a native Mac application and does not need to be run
under any Windows emulation software on a Mac, such as WinOnX.

Thanks all

I’ll need to have a play about. Dropbox is there on the Mac but the files are not visible in Winonx. As Anders suggests, I may need to install it under winonx to get visibility.

Cheers
