Sailwave integration

I'm new to SW and have been going over it for a few days now.
All looks great, but the one thing I can't figure out is how to integrate it with our website easily and I was just wondering how others integrate the race results?

I can FTP the result files to the site and analyse them there so these are processed, but I have yet to figure out how to add variables to the upload path if this is possible at all.

Another option is the adding of a 'blog post', but that doesn't actually seem to post the actual data. It looks like this just opens the specified URL after which the user has to paste the results.

I also noticed the javascript option when publishing but I don't think these are run automatically on publishing (or are they?), but require the user to open the generated HTML after which the javascript will/can run in the browser.

I guess ideally I'm looking for a way to post the raw data to a specified URL after which our site can process the data accordingly.

Does anybody have any suggestions/advise?

Thanks
Arjen

Not sure if this helps, but you can look at our site for an example of how Sailwave results are posted in a lot of different race series over several years. Basically we just generate the raw HTML results and upload the pages to our site.

Hi Jan,

How does SW know what subfolder to upload the files to? Is it generated by SW automatically (i.e. with variables in the path) or did you set that in the settings for each SW file individually?

I’m trying to avoid having to involve the webmaster from setting up folders for each race and automate as much as possible if that makes sense.

In the Publish options, there is an option to publish to a website with ftp.

Its supposed to be possible to include path names in the file name window so that the file goes to the correct directory on the server. However I've not been able to get that part to work myself.

I publish to a file on my PC, then use a separate program (Filezilla) to transfer that file to the requisite directory on the website.

One simple option is to publish the results to the Sailwave results folder. This is an option on the Publish destination options dialog. Sailwave will then automatically send your results html file to a folder it manages. Have your webmaster set up a link to this url. Then when someone clicks on the link from the Club’s website, the results are displayed automatically.

With this setup, Sailwave users do not need any special website administrator privileges in order to post the results. The only thing you need to coordinate with your webmaster is the names for the files.

This works particularly well for a long series, because the results displayed on your website are updated automatically whenever you send an updated file from Sailwave.

To see this in action, you can go to

http://www.pequotyc.com

Click on Sailing/Race results then on any of the Cruising results links. The results are displayed in a new browser window.

The only downside of this approach that I am aware of is that it would be possible for another Sailwave user to over-write your results, hence the warning to choose unique filenames.

At the Blackwater Sailing Club we use Joomla for the site and there is a module called "easy folder listing pro". This lists all the results as they are transferred through the FTP option from Sailwave.

Very easy to setup and use, but only of use if you have a Joomla site.

Thank you all for your suggestions and advice!

I think I now have a pretty decent setup where the results file gets uploaded via FTP and processed by the web server.

I did create a custom template for this to work the way i needed it to, but that all appears to be working ok now.

If anybody knows if there’s any documentation about the variables that can be used within the templates then please let me know so I can polish mine a bit more but it generally works now.

Thanks again

In global options, specify subdirectory on ftp-server (without leadings ./), and in publish option specify FTP and subdirectory and filename in base URL, example: on ftp server ftp.xxxxx.cc and subdirectory om that server is media/result and the name of the sailwave result file is race.html, then you should specify
Global Option FTP Base URL : media/results/ and server ftp.xxxxx.cc (plus user and password)
Publish Filename : /media/results/race.html

It worked for me, the problem is to find the specication level (only filename, directory and filename, and going up i directory / or ./ or ../ .

Notice that publishing in a Iframe at the website specifying charset UTF-8 different from the sailwave charset, can make it necessary to specify charset for the Sailwave output if you use national charsets (global option charset only concerns input ) by adding a metatag to the header.txt file (example <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1252"> ).
