[sailwave] KISS

One philosophy that we have had at my club for several years was where possible to stick to the ISAF rules. At one point we believed ourselves to be smarter than ISAF and as such would modify the scoring system, starting systems, etc. to meet our special needs and provide a better solution. In retrospect it probably wasn't better and was simply different.

In looking at some of the issues we are asking Colin to include I am concerned that we are including scoring options that are different, but not necessarily better than that which can be achieved "out of the rule book". Always think Keep It Simple Stupid (KISS), when you discover that the scoring system that you dreamt up one winters evening doesn't score correctly in Sailwave, ask yourseleves
is it better or different! End of soap box....

Colin, thanks for all the hard work and a great scoring program. Hope your sailing season is going well.

Thanks Mark!

From now on I will KISS as often as I can!

(I've learned it another way: Keep It Simple, as Simple as possible)

The trouble is that I quite often need to remind myself of this principle & get some very odd looks

I find Keep It Simple & Short is a good alternative

Unfortunately, sometimes you inherit a system and have to try and work it whether you agree with it or not....

I try very hard to resist adding stuff willy nilly and constantly try to
simplify but its not always possible...

Colin, thanks for all the hard work and a great scoring program.

Thanks. No sailing (boatless) apart from borrowing a boat last weekend for
our long distance race, but, I'm hoping to get my hands on an A-Class in
about 6 weeks time...

Hi Mark,

Good luck with the A-Cat one of our members just got back from the World's
in France...

Thanks.

If anybody knows of a decent A2/Flyer/XJ for sail near the UK, I'd be
interested... They are not too popular in the UK at the moment with just a
handful of boats here, but a lots of people are talking about them and I
feel a revolution starting... Relatively expensive though. The UK Nacra
'agent' quoted me L13,800 for a new A2 - that's $24,000 and 20,000. But he
would not deliver it !! A new XJ is far more reasonable at L9200 if you
drive to Rimini to get it... Don't have Flyer price - they did not respond
to my email; amazing; too much business...?
