[sailwave] Laps

Hi!
Not sure if I get's this... Is it so that some boats are finishing, without racing the same distance (# laps) as others?

If so, why not enter those with all laps first, then those with 1 lap less, and at last those with 2 laps less... That should give the correct "finishing" order...

regards

I have to score an International Moth skiff regatta. In the worlds <BR>
sailing instructions is written:<BR>
" 4.1 For races where the course is shortened or where all boats do <BR>
not complete the same number of laps the following will apply in <BR>
determining the finishing order;<BR>
(a) Boats completing the same number of laps as the first finishing <BR>
boat will be scored in the order that they cross the Finish Line. <BR>
e.g. 1,2,3,4,5,…..<BR>
(b) Boats completing 1 lap less than the first boat will awarded a <BR>
finishing place equal to the next available place after all boats <BR>
complying with (a) above have been scored, and in the order they last<BR>
crossed the finish line. e.g. 6,7,8,9,10,11…….<BR>
(c) Boats completing 2 laps less than the first boat will awarded a <BR>
finishing place equal to the next available place after all boats <BR>
complying with (a) and (b) above have been scored, and in the order<BR>
they last crossed the finish line. e.g. 12,13,14,15,…….<BR>
(d) The above method of scoring will apply regardless of whether or <BR>
not the first finishing boat is subjected to any scoring penalties <BR>
(eg. OCS, ZFP, SCP, RAF, DSQ, DNE)."<BR>
Any suggestion to use Sailwave to input the finishing order and the <BR>
laps number, in order to obtain the finishing position?<BR>
Thanks, Roberto Armellin<BR>

Hi!
The problem comes because on the finishing line the RO records the boats as
they are crossing the finishing line, any laps number.
I am looking for a solution to enter first of all the ordinal finishing
position of each boat and, one's checked, to supplement the laps number
(i.e. filling in the laps field), in order to adjust automatically the final
race score.
Any suggestion is welcome.

I'm confused now!. Are you saying that the race officer will write down
each sail number *every* time a boat completes a lap. Then the results
person has to find out how many laps each boat as has sailed by counting the
number of times a sail number appears in the list from the race officer?

For example if the results form the WO were:-

111
222
333
111
222

Then 111 and 222 have sailed 2 laps and 333 has sailed 1 lap - is that the
sort of list you're going to get? If not can you create an example to show
us. Thanks.

That sounds like a manual procedure… You need to check who sailed the
complete course before scoring
