Sailwave license agreement

My post earlier today appears to have lost its content. I'll re-
compose it as best I can.

I hate to be the squeaky wheel but requiring that a live link be
included with the race results may preclude my club from using
SailWave because it conflicts with our Commercialism Policy.

Colin, I ran your earlier request - to keep the URL in the results
and post something on our website about SailWave - by our
Commercialism committee. They agreed wholeheartedly that we should
acknowledge using SailWave to manage race results, but they felt we
could not post a live link to the SailWave site.

As a non-profit (or is that not-for-profit, I never know)
organization we cannot appear to be affiliated with any commercial
enterprises without jeopardizing that status. While SailWave is not
a commercial enterprise today, it may become so in the future, as
you yourself have mentioned.

As everyone else has already stated we love the product, are very
grateful to your for your efforts and want to give you the
recognition you deserve. If you could require a written reference
to SailWave instead of a live link we would be happy to comply (and
indeed already planned to).

David,

This might help... There is much precedence today that concludes that
"content is content". The difference between internet content and document
content has long been forgotten by the most important component - the
audience. If your committee has agreed to provide reference in written
form, it is no different than the link to Sailwave.

Consider other not-for-profit organizations that provides references. For
example, volunteer fire companies that develop ad-books comprised of local
merchants who buy space in the book. This is a source of funding for needed
equipment. Churches do the same...advertisements at activities and events.
Many yacht clubs have linked with SailNet but are still
not-for-profit...they receive some discount for their members use of
SailNet. Take a look at the American Red Cross site www.redcross.org for
examples of linking to "supporters". Couldn't Sailwave be considered a
supporter..?

Most not-for-profit organizations readily provide advertisement for their
contributors. Would it help considering Sailwave a contributor to the
otherwise expense of buying and endorsing a different product. Could
commercialism, as your committee might view it, exclude an "endorsement" of
your club's enthusiastic use of the product...?

There are many other examples that might be useful to consider. I believe
we could all come up with some ideas of how to help your club accept the
link.

Regards,

Nick Puccio
