Sailwave-Lite

Many users are flatly refusing to change from 1.57 - or having chnaged go
"Ug, what is all this crap" and promptly switch back. Which is fair enough,
1.57 was a nice release. I've decided that I am going to have to maintain
two versions.

Sailwave-Lite will be what 1.57 was and will not develop much (just keep
pave with the RRS). Sailwave will be what we have now.

I did try and work out a way to make the current version be both but it's
going to be easier to have two.

Hurrah, says Rick W...

Colin

Hi, Colin!

Hurrah says Martin too!

But, are you sure??

The difference in layout should not be tooo big… I suggest that before you’re making a “final” light version, you’ll need to find out what to put into it. My opinion is that it should be straight app.A, no flights and no Teamracing.

This could give you the opportunity to make up Sailwave from blocks: Basic scoring, Short series with low-, high-, bonus rating, Flights, Team and so on.

Then you could reach what I think was one of your goals once: A free, easy to use scoring system.

Also you could make a system that satisfies Ralph, Anders, me and many others: Sailwave Advanced (or XL pro or something fancy!!)

Regards,

Martin

PS! You should be aware that alot of peoples now are dependant of you… Be careful!

Hi Colin,

What does this mean for the file format? If I create a BLW file for a
regatta using the current version... Any chance I could export it to a
1.57 format for other scorekeepers to use.

Any one have tips on keeping both versions of sailwave running on one
computer?

Thanks
Mark

Hi Mark,

Sometimes I post on the group while I'm just thinking about something
without really realising I'm doing it and a few minites later think, shit,
that was a mistake; as in this case. The simplified 'version' will have to
be one and the same as the real version for all sorts of reasons, including
the one you highlight.

What I propose is along the lines of What Martin was saying: by default
Sailwave will start up with many of it's feautes disabled and hidden away -
you can then enable them as necessary - the full disabled mode should be
easy to use, like 1.57.

PS: loving the Tybee videos - it's great to put faces to lots of the
catsailor names after all these years - so many people look totally
different to my mental model though! - especially Jake K... John W is a
star..

Colin
