Silly query: when I publish to Winword using the Blue Blocks format and save it as a webpage (.htm) the grid is about double the size vertically that it need to be. It doesn’t respond to changes put in manually through the Office toolbar,
Included in the download is a template file PursuitTemplateStd.xls
Run SWPH
Select the Sailwave file you want to process if it is not the last one you used
Select the template file PursuitTemplateStd.xls or one you have developed yourself
Select which race from which you want to use to feed the ratings into Excel. (Normally leave this at 1 but if you are adjusting handicaps it is probably the last one you raced - SWPH will attempt to quess for you anyway)
Click to Excel
Check and modify any of the start times
Click the Starts to SW button
Select if you want to use Class or individual starts (Class will create a start for each class in the file - Individual will create one for each competitor)
Select the Race you want to create the starts for (This is normally automatically set for you but you can override it if you wish)
Select if you wish to keep existing starts in this race if you do these starts will be added to those already there otherwise all other starts for this race will be deleted.
Click Go
You can now close down SWPH and open your Sailwave file with Sailwave.
There are 2 Templates supplied the Std one is simpler and can be used for Calculating Pursuit races the Full one shows how more information can be transferred to Excel.
These are sample templates but you can create new ones or modify these to produce your own requirements.
The idea is you can also use it to perform personal handicapping by modifying the start times of competitors.

Example attached - you see what I mean? I suspect it’s a HTML thing but it used not to happen. Fortunately we have a small fleet but when it comes to Findhorn week we’ll need an awful lot of space,( if the attachment doesn’t work go to http://www.rfyc.net/results/club-racing-2013.html and download it)

Could you please explain why you publish to WinWord? If you need to
tidy or edit the output you might be better off using an HTML editor
than WinWord. WinWord is not a very good HTML editor and usually
adds a load of extra, usually unnecessary stuff.
Kind regards,

Huw is correct Word is not the best thing for editing HTML it creates very large files with lots of useless info. Out of curiosity I just did a test - Saving a Sailwave results file directly as html and it was 27kb then I published it to Word and saved it and it was 390kb. If you want to edit the html file try Kompozer which is Free from http://www.kompozer.net/
However if you really want to use Word what you need to do is Type Control A to select all and then click the line spacing icon on the ribbon and then select “Line spacing options” then tick the box " Don’t add space between paragraphs of the same style" - It will then look like you require

I do it because I don’t know any better. I want to be able to put it on the website myself, I am told that it has to be in HTML or htm, Sailwave offers me winword or excel, Word offers me the option of saving it in HTML and so I do. I know I should be able to do it direct from the FTP but have never been able to make that work. And so we fumble our way through life, not really knowing why we are here or what we are doing but noting that most of the people who do it professionally don’t really have any more success!

George,
I have no doubt the experts will give a better answer, but all I do
to get an html file output is to go to Publish, then save as a File
on my computer/network. The file is an html file. I don’t know where
the Sailwave offers Winword or Excel.
I then ftp the file to the website.

Hi George,
Sailwave has a an option to publish to a file on your computer this is an HTML file which you can transfer to your website . If you do this you will get a file about a tenth of the size of one saved with Word which will load much quicker for your users.

Thanks v much. All three methods work (publishing ‘to my default browser’ rather than ‘to an installed application’, editing the Word file using the paragraph dialog and using Kompozer.) Personally, for me, the trick is to stay on familiar ground and that is Word. The millions of megabytes seem to be able to look after themselves!
