[sailwave] No luck with searching archives

1. A definitive guide to creating 'house' styles and templates for

race documentation. Or perhaps someone has created a house style and
can annotate their file to show how it's done.<

There is currently no documentation with Sailwave other than the FAQs. I'll
add one about creating styles/templates ASAP. NB: If you understand HTML
and CSS you can look in the sailwave/templates and sailwave/styles folders
and work by example by matching the css style names to the style names used
in an example set of results.

I note there is no 'Files' section here, where such info could be stored.<

It could be the way you're using the group or have it configured...? I can
see a Files section with some uploaded rating libraries... Simon Smith is
the man that can help you...

2. Why I get a hyperlinked name in my results. The link was to an

ISAF file and resulted in an error anyway. I guess ISAF have some
bios. on the site, and if my competitor has the same name it creates
a link, but this really ought to be an option, as it's a pain in the
arse if EVERY race this person does needs editing.<

A competitor is published as a hyperlink to their ISAF Sailor bio entry if
you have entered an ISAF bio code (e.g gbrcj3) in the helm/crew bio fields
of Edit+Competitor. The implication is that some these fields are
populated, but not with valid bio IDs...

One thing I did find is a ref. to global options for my installation

of Sailwave, but it wasn't very helpful. What I'm suggesting is that
the defaults could be stored in a .txt or .ini file in a directory
called My Defaults under \Sailwave. If there is no file, or no
defaults are set, no defaults will be shown when the series option
window is opened.<

The way to handle this as it stands is to create a new series by using Save
As from an existing series. I personally keep a number of pre-configured
series especially for this purpose; it's a more generic approach because it
allows you to set up series for different scoring/competitor contexts etc
etc. Sailwave will remember the last publish destination once done once -
on a per series basis.

Colin

Thanks for your comprehensive reply.

I found that the competitor that got hyperlinked had a single
character in the ISAF biog field. An easy mistake to make when you're
doing a heap of results very fast.

I've had a crack at creating a house style, and I'll read up more on
CSS. Look forward to seeing a guide in FAQ.

Re defaults for logo location etc. The reason this doesn't work very
well for us is that the person who does most of the club results uses
his own PC (except when we do the results immediately for a regatta,
when it's on the club PC), so he sets up the series defaults for
that. Then I get the blw file so I can re-create the results page as
I need it for the club website.

What I was suggesting, is that the default file settings would be
used if you didn't enter something different when you set up the
series, or perhaps a checkbox to say use defaults.

What does anyone else think?

Hi,

Re defaults for logo location etc. The reason this doesn't work very

I'll look into the defaults approach. For now you can do achieve what you
want by using relative path names, not absolute path names. This is how I
have my local results and my web results arranged...

Local:-

  my documents\events\*.blw
  my documents\events\images\*.*

So I would use "images/flag.gif" (note /, not \) for example, in the burgee
fields.

If you then arrange the web site like this...

public_html\results\*.htm
public_html\results\images\*.*

...the images will display in both contexts. Alternatively you could
specify the full web URL of the image (e.g.
http://www.mywebsite.com/results/images/flag.gif" which will also work when
looking at the results off line once the images are in your cache; i.e.
after they've been viewed on-line once.

There are of course may other ways of arranging the folders such that a
single relative filename will work both locally and on-line.

Colin
