[sailwave] OOD/Discards

Vareo Dave,

Have you gone into "scoring system tab ". Then go to "scoring codes" double click ood. Make sure in the method tab you have the option you want selected. I'd say you are looking for average of (sum of points for non dnc). Then go to properties tab. Make sure this code is discardable is ticked. That should work i hope.

I have a question about scoring in Sailwave

We have a series scored using Appendix A standard low point. The discard profile is s/2-0.5 so 6 races into the series, there are four races to count and two discards. One sailor has done OOD duty for 4 of the 6 races and competed in the other two, scoring 5 and 2. OOD scoring is set as 'average of non-discarded races'.

Sailwave scores him as:

R1 - 22.0 OOD
R2 - 20.0 OOD
R3 - (5.0)
R4 - (2.0)
R5 - 24.0 OOD
R6 - 23.0 OOD

Total - 96.0
Nett - 89.0

The OOD scores in the 20s look to be the number of boats that started the race + 1. The sailor is questioning why it isn't the 24 and 23 that are being discarded and I don't have an answer. Can anyone please explain why:

i) the average OOD scores are so high (20+)
ii) why the lowest scores are the ones that are discarded

Many thanks,
Dave.

Thanks Chris - I've had another look. We're using average of non-discarded rather than non-DNC but other than that, it is setup as you suggest. Colin is going to take a look at the file so let's see what comes of that.

Thanks,
Dave.

I’m not sure its computable other than what it’s
doing. If you have a code set up such that it is based on
non-discarded races - then by definition the discard process has to be
done first. What you will find is that after two more races, it’ll
look more like you expect…

Colin, shouldn’t all the points be the same for all the redress races?

In the example below.

  • Six boat fleet
  • Sail No 3 has results of RDGa, RAF, RDGa.

The RAF is clearly scored with 7 points.

Shouldn’t the other two races where the competitor was both given regress both have the same points?

I don’t understand why Sail No 3 receives 2 pts in race 1 and 4.5 points in Race 3, they should both be the same.
