SailWave questions

I'm looking at SailWave as a method of doing scoring within the
Multihull Racing Association (MHRA). We are a group of various type
of catamaran sailors on the West Coast that participate in a series
of race every year. I have a handful of questions that I have not
easily been able to figure out through the install and with the
limited amount of poking around that I've done.

  1) Is there an easy way for me to build a database of sailors
(with boats, Portsmouth numbers, etc.) that would be portable from
event to event? I would like to be able to pass a database out to
the RC's and have them just select the participants on race day and
just start entering times and wind data.

  2) Does changing a boat's handicap, either within rating.txt
or via a user's profile change, the handicap for all owners of that
boat type? If not, what will be the best way to update handicap
numbers as changes are provided from the Portsmouth committee?

  3) Can a single race have different Beaufort levels for
different divisions? We often do rolling starts where one division's
race X can occur at a very different time (and conditions) than
another division's race X. If not, I assume the easiest solution
would be to have a separate file for each division.

        4) Does the application support multiple fleets when some
fleets are one-design (scored by place) and other fleets are racing
Portsmouth?

Thanks in advance for any help. My questions are not knocks
against the application nor are they things that I would "expect" to
be there. So far, this looks like an outstanding application.

A Sailwave series itself can be used for this purpose. You can
include/exclude as appropriate. Most users set up a number of Sailwave
series as 'templates' and copy them for use using MyComputer or open them in
Sailwave and use SaveAs. the advantage of using a series is that you can
also preconfigure the scoring rules and codes etc.

No it doesn't because otherwise if you rescored an old series you get the
wrong results. Handicaps are copied from the rating lib to the competitor
details. No mass update tools currently present but I happen to working on
this sort of thing now. I realise Sailwave is currently limited in this
area. The only mass update tool there is, is Edit_AllCOmpetitors, but it's
fairly limited in it's capabilities.

Yes, see Edit+Fleets and then the detail of each fleet; you can override
many things on a per fleet basis.

4) Does the application support multiple fleets when some

fleets are one-design (scored by place) and other fleets are racing
Portsmouth?<

Yes. Sailwave will also happily score a one-design race (rating system =
"None") based on elapsed times or start/finish times which is often required
in mixed fleet racing because the RC will just log the elapsed time of each
boat.

Thanks, it's not finished yet, but it's getting there.

Colin
