[sailwave] Re: chipestaed siling clunb chips scoring

true but then it comes down to dicard and that is the controlling factor.

Boat A - 1, 1, 1, DNC, DNC, DNC
Boat B - 2, 3, 2, 2, 2, 2
Boat C - DNC, 2, DNC, 1, 1, 1

if you look at boat A and boat c boat C on dicard would beat boat A however boat B has been more constistant.

your model only seems to suggest that the discard required to complete a series should be sorted out and that high points scoring should not be taken into account.

With your model boats A B C can tell how to improve but if you used high points scoring these boats would not be able to work out how to beat fellow competitors as they would relie on factors out of there control numbers turning up to race.

Should a race series be determined by how many turn up to race or by skill.

1 example to make if someone in there last club race needs 10 boats to race and they need to come at least 2nd to win the race and ultimately the series, but and this is the big but only 8 boats turn up. Is that skill no it is down to numbers turning up.

another example of this is that 10 boats turned up but the guy who could loose his first place if he sails decides not to sail makeing there only 9 boats. Is that skill no tactial sailing. So the guy who could of won the series doesn’t even get the chance to have a go.

This guy could have sailed all season but the weather has favoured his type of sailing now.

If you look at that seniaro he is penalised by numbers not sailing. Where is the skill in that. Does that encourage sailing no.

sailing is about ultimately going out and doing your best in all conditions regardless of fleet sizes (which you can not control).

low points scoring with modified discards takes this into consideration and work

high points scoring doesn’t it penal;ises you for others not sailing.

not everyone’s form sailing wise stays the same every race people have good and bad races and high points scoring doesn’t reward that it only rewards sailing in large fleets.

At chipstead sailing club (this year) on one wensday evening race loads of boats went out (only cause great weather) but cause of using chips system and low wind made people cheat just to get a better position in order to get better results. There was not the numbers rest of the wensday sailing series. That one race determined the outcome of the series.

Tell me this a kid ges on holiday for two weekends and comes back and sails in his series but cause of record turn out on his weekends when on holiday they find that even though they beat certain people all season bar there holiday they can not beat them in the series. is that fair. That disencourages them to sail.

If that doesn’t prove that high points scoring like chips is a faliure then what is
