[sailwave] Re: Portsmouth Wind Indexed Ratings

Thanks Colin.
I may be getting closer.
Your program is really good and as soon as I get this last little thing
fixed, it's going to be great.
I do a lot of open multihull regattas and I always do the scoring by hand.
Then I have to write down the results to post in the fleet newsletter.

This past weekend I used Sailwave after all the calculations were done and I
was really impressed with the summary format.
I had the results e-mailed to all the competitors within a couple of days.
I don't know how I managed without a computer for so long.

Thanks again.

Hi Billy

Okay........Colin, I'm pretty sure I did it just like you said, but.

After I input all the race data and then -score series- I get error
message "missing rating for competitor".<

Sailwave requires the default rating value to be entered for handicap
racing. I agree it's not actually necessary in your situation but WI
ratings were added after default ratings and the test survived. Enter D-PNs
in the box and you should be OK. I'll remove the restriction ASAP (if WO
ratings are defined) but Sailwave is in bits at the moment and I can't
upload anything.

There doesn't seem to be a connection between the rating and the

elapsed time to do the calculations for corrected time then compute
finish positions.<

Sailwave gets the elapsed time (Edit + Result) - looks up the appropriate WI
rating (Edit + Competitor) via the wind strength (Edit + Race) and
calculates the corrected time as per the rating system (Edit +
ScoringSystem). The Corrected time is saved back into the result detail and
'Appendix A' applied to compute the race positions and series positions.

$ The rating system is selected (or defined using a custom expression) once
per series (Edit + ScoringSystem).

$ A list of valid wind strengths representing the wind indexed ratings are
defined once per series. (Edit + Scoring System).

$ Wind indexed ratings are defined once per competitor. (Edit + Competitor).

$ Actual wind strengths are defined once per race (Edit + Race).

$ Elapsed times are defined once per competitor per race (Edit + Result).

Colin

Hi Billy,

This past weekend I used Sailwave after all the calculations were done and

I
was really impressed with the summary format.<

Thanks; it's getting there. User controlled HTML styles is in progress.
I'll add a library of styles to get started with but you'll be able to
define your own...

I had the results e-mailed to all the competitors within a couple of days.

I don't know how I managed without a computer for so long. <

I've just been testing a new publishing 'destination' - you can now select
'as an attachment to an email' - this fires up your default email client
'new email' form and attaches the results as an HTML file; the email is left
in you Outbox as would any other new email. It should ease the 'to-email'
route a bit. I hope to add an email field to the competitor details soon to
allow mass emailings to competitors.

Regards,
Colin

PS: for the about to work your email client must be MAPI compliant as
Outlook and Outlook Express are.
