Sounds to me like there should be an optiion to export to excel or
even csv format. I would normally save in html and then open the html
document from excel.

Subject: [sailwave] Re: Printing ProblemsHi Colin: Problem 1. Which browsers don't? I use a font adjusted to
make sure that all columns fit in the available width. Mr. Harvey
points out another problem in that Sailwave prints headers and
footers
without any control over them. You remember a long time ago you and
I
had a lot of correspondence about formatting output and the problems
of column headers and big fleets - you lose track of columns as you
view the last page of printout which could be several feet below the
top of the table! Sure I can insert column headers and format on the
fly but I don't have time for all of that. Six or so races X 6 or 7
fleets, committee boats wont radio in results after each race, so I
end up with a huge data entry problem. Because it is a youth regatta
we cant send competitors to the bar to wait as is usual! I don't
need
to waste time playing with formatting during the event I want to set
it up beforehand. I want to click on Publish and lo and behold I get
formatted output with x number of competitors per paper page with a
column header preferably on each page. Do users not pin up results
for
people on the deck of their Clubhouses for sailors to see? If they
do
how do they do it professionally and quickly?
Do I sound a tad grumpy? Well, yes because I blew out a mainsail on
Sunday and I've just ordered a new one for the old is beyond
redemption. So I got my first ever DFL in a race. You bet I'm
grumpy.
Bye, Donald
Hi Donald et al,
The original idea was to generate HTML and then get a web browser
to
it. As I understand it, the problem with this is twofold:-
1. Some browsers split the table rows in half at the bottom of a
page,
making that row spread across two pages vertically and hence is
unreadable.
I've never seen a browser do this - it always splits the row at a
sensible
place so the text itself is never split.
2. When using a large font (or a long series) the number of
columns can
overflow a landscape sheet of paper horizontally - and browsers do
not
handle this.
Is that correct?
Or is 1. more do to with the fact that the header rows are only
available on
the first page?

Colin J
