[sailwave] Re: Sailwave+XP

Huw and Colin

Thank you for your help!

I am the only user, the Control Panel User Accounts has me (or rather the business name) as Computer Administrator. I have no problems with any other programme.

Sailwave Version 8 appears to work normally in all respects except that I cannot read or save .blw files to the hard disk (a floppy disc seems to work properly) and the only publishing option that I have is to Yachts and Yachting.

Yours,

Richard

Hi Richard,

Are you logging into XP or are you using it in single user mode? If the former, are you logging in as administrator to install Sailwave - it sounds like the install is not storing any files.
Try creating a folder by hand in c:\program files - does it let you?
Try creating a folder by hand in c:\program files\sailwave - does it let you?
If it does let you try adding some files to these folders you just created - does it let you? i.e. can you open the files after adding them to the folders.
Just some things to try to get some clues... CJ

ActiveX security settings are in Internet Explorer, changing them might help. As the about screen still says version 38 after installing 39b2 it might be worth uninstalling and redownloading sailwave, then installing it again.
  Hope it helps

Thank for your comments but I'm afraid that I am no closer to solving the

Hi Richard,

I still think it’s a security thing since Sailwave does run on some XP installations. However perhaps it time to do things properly and let the user specify the location of the templates, styles and rating library and perhaps the ini files; this will help on win2000 as well. I have tried to refrain from this because of the added user complexity and the array of things that can go wrong and get out of sync etc - but I don’t think I can get away with it. I’m out on a stag day today (Sat) and sailing tomorrow (well that’s the theory anyway), but I have Monday morning off. I’ll have a look at doing something then…

NB: If I’m right, you should be able to install v39beta into MyDocuments for now… Actually could you try that and see if it works.

I’ve installed Version 38 to My Documents and it appears to be working properly so you are obviously correct about the security thing. Many thanks.
