[sailwave] Re: Starts with no boats

Perhaps I am missing something here? In a pursuit race, the boats should be recorded by their finish place. First to finish is 1st place.

Our race officers do one or two duties a year so it does fill me with dread the idea on creating instructions that say find all starts without competitors and delete them, as I know they either won’t or they will delete something random.

Thanks for your tweak though, much appreciated.

Just thinking - not sure if it is complex to code, but what if

  • Error - No competitors in Start XX of Race YY
  • Do you want to remove Start XX from Race YY [Yes/No]

within the error box, or even

  • Do you want to remove ALL Starts with no Competitors from Race YY [Yes/No]

That way there is less danger of deleting starts which actually had valid competors.

Hi Steve,

Yes what you say is correct for a 'traditional' pursuit race. I do

not know if you saw the first message in this thread but it said

I also know that there are some users that time the pursuit races so that they can adjust the handicap for future races a form of progressive handicap, which is one of the reasons I developed the pursuit race calculator mentioned earlier in this thread.

Thanks for the clarification. It would seem to add complication to a fairly simple idea.

Yes, no idea why the club does it that way, has been doing so as long as I have been a member (6 years). Not sure is we are teh only club that does it that way.

I does complicate things, but in theory I guess it is fairer - not that handicap sailing is ever fair.
