No its slightly more dificult than that.
In this case the race was supposed to be 1 large lap plus 4 short laps.
It was shortened as the faster boats finished the 2nd small lap. Our
sailing instructions state that when a race is shortened then the finish
time will be taken as each boat crosses the line and we will use average lap
times to work the result out. Normally the way you work the average lap times
out does not cause a problem except for possible rounding errors if you divide down
rather than multiply up. But in this case it does make a big difference. We will modify the
SI's for next season to specify that we will multiply up and in this case we have agreed to
multiply up. We also ended up agreeing we would do the same for this particular race last
night.
Thanks for the reply

What did the Sailing Instructions say? If the SIs said to do one big
lap and two small ones, your only choice is to score those who only
did the one small lap as DNF.If the SIs said to do one small lap, and you have times for the
completion of the first small lap for those who did two, just use the
"one lap" times as the finish times.
