[sailwave] Rotational Sail Numbers?

Hi Ed
Have you considered the import/export features between SW & Excel?

It's a relatively straightforward process (if someone has the VBA skills) to:
- set up a spreadsheet with competitor name & 'race' sail number
- enter finishing positions into the spreadsheet against 'race' sail numbers
- with a small macro, find & replace 'race' sail numbers with 'championship' sail numbers
- export back into Sailwave

If you can get a laptop on the finish boat, the overall process may even be quicker than manual
input into SW

Even if it is a tad longer, you still get all the benefits of SW

Regards
Ralph

Thanks for the explanation. I certainly couldn't figure out how to do this,
but wanted to be sure I wasn't overlooking a technique ... or ignorant of
some feature(s). The next time I will need to score such an event format is
late July. If I were to use new software though, I would want to have it
operational long before then to be able to test it thoroughly. This seems
like a big enough change that wouldn't fit that timeframe, but I anxiously
await the possibility if and when you find a way to incorporate it.

Best,
Ed

Hi Ed.

Given your context I would love to be able to accommodate you but I can't
see how to in the existing versions. THere is a seeding tool
that allocates
strings to a field based on a list in a random order which you
could use to
see the initial sailnumbers but thyat's about it. It seems like what's
required more and more is a complete competitor records for each race with
various ways of populating it... blank values assume the default record.
Lots of support requests would be handled by this. I'll think
about it some
more.

Colin J

Thanks, Ralph. I'll look into it, although macro programming isn't in my
life plan right now ;>) You are right that whatever system is used, it
would have to be automatic and quick because we like to post race results on
the Internet real-time as the event progresses. Great idea.

Ed

If you score each race as a seperate sailwave series and then use the merge feature to merge the results into a master series using helm as the merge criteria, it should work. Initially you will need to setup an spreadsheet with columns of Helm, Race1Sail#, Race2Sail#, Race3Sail#, etc and then load each of the series from the spreadsheet, using the appropriate race sail# combination.
